Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial

ISDB-T is the digital television system used in Japan, which is the only country that uses this standard. It is an evolution over DVB-T, which is the most used digital television system in the world.

ISDB-T system uses MPEG-2 algorithm (the same used by DVD) for image compression and COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation for transmission, just like DVB-T. It is important to notice that these two systems are less susceptible to noise if compared to ATSC system, which is the one used by the USA, Mexico, Canada and South Korea.
