Digital television standard adopted by the USA, Canada, Mexico and South Korea.

In this system the images are coded using the MPEG-2 algorythm (the same used by DVD and other digital television standards) and transmited using 8-VSB (Eight Vestigial Side Band) modulation. The modulation technique used on ATSC is what differs it from the other digital television standards adopted by other countries (DVB-T and ISDB-T). The ATSC disavantage over the other two standards is that the 8-VSB is more sensible to interferences.
