Toshiba Intros Hard Disks for Automotive Use

Toshiba has introduced a hard disk drive series targeted to automotive applications, such as entertainment, navigation and telemetry. Two models were announced: 200 GB (MK2060GSC) and 100 GB (MK1060GSC). Both are 2.5” disks, have SATA-300 interface, present a 12 ms access time, have a single-platter design, work at 4,200 rpm, produce a maximum noise level of 23 dB and can work at an operating temperature range from -30º C to 85º C (-22º F to 185º F). These disks were made to work in altitudes ranging from -1,000 feet to 18,500 feet (-300 m to 5,650 m) and are shock- and vibration-resistant. No word on pricing and availability.
