Toshiba has announced their first family of 2.5” hard disk drives that carry a self-encrypting technology that automatically invalidates protected data when connected to an unauthorized system.

This family, dubbed MK6461GSYG, is comprised of five models (640 GB, 500 GB, 320 GB, 250 GB, and 160 GB), all of them running at 7,200 rpm with SATA-300 interface, 16 MB of buffer, a 12 ms average seek time, and AES 256-bit encryption.

The MK6461GSYG should enter mass production at the end of June.
