Seagate Launches Momentus XT Hybrid Drive
By Cássio Lima on May 25, 2010 - 10:07 AM

Seagate has just launched Momentus XT, an HD/SSD hybrid drive that combines the low cost of hard disk drives with the high performance of SSD units. This disk features a smart technology that actively monitors the frequently-used applications and data files and stores them in the SSD for quick access. The product is available in 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB capacities, has SATA-300 interface, 32 MB cache, spins at 7,200 rpm and has 4 GB SLC flash memory. Momentus XT 500 GB, 320 GB and 250 GB models are priced at USD 156, USD 132 and USD 113, respectively.

Note: Two years ago Seagate tried to launch a similar product, but it failed because the caching control was made by Windows Vista. In this new model the control is made by an internal controller.
