Sandisk has unveiled today a new flash memory drive. The case is a 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD), the same used in hard-drives. But the 32 GB of data is stored on flash chips.
The SanDisk SSD is more than 100 times faster than most HDs, says the manufacturer. It achieves a read rate of 62 MB/s and a random read rate of 7,000 IOPS. A laptop PC equipped with SanDisk SSD can boot Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise in as little as 35 seconds. Another advantage is the low power consumption rate: 0,4 W.
