Contrary to Gigabyte, that launched a brand new line-up of AM3+ motherboards, MSI has updated some of their current AM3 motherboards to support the upcoming AMD’s 32nm CPUs (based on the Bulldozer architecture) by upgrading the BIOS. Therefore, users can install an AMD AM3+ processor on an MSI AM3 motherboard without having to purchase a new one.
The table below shows the first MSI motherboards to support AM3+ processors and their corresponding BIOS versions:
Model | Chipset | BIOS Version |
890FXA-GD70 | AMD 890FX | A7640AMS.190 |
890FXA-GD65 | AMD 890FX | A7640AMS.I20 |
890GXM-G65 | AMD 890GX | A7642AMS.1A0 |
