Intel Patsburg Chipset to Support SAS
By Cássio Lima on September 21, 2010 - 2:03 PM

In the second half of 2011 Intel will introduce its Xeon processors for the server market based on the new Sandy Bridge architecture. The chipset that will support these upcoming processors, codename Patsburg, will feature four 6 Gbps (600 MB/s) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) ports with RAID (0, 1, 10, and 5) support. By supporting software RAID, Intel hopes to lower the cost of SAS implementation on servers.
