Sooner than expected, as the launch was originally scheduled for January 5th, Intel has officially introduced their first CPUs based on their newest Sandy Bridge microarchitecture. We’ve already written an article explaining the main features of the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture.
These new CPUs are officially known now as "Second Generation Core i3/Core i5/Core i7".
The new chips are built in 32-nm process, feature Turbo Boost 2.0 technology and Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) instruction set, and use a new socket with 1155 pins. The north bridge (memory controller, graphics controller and PCI Express controller) is now integrated in the same die as the rest of the CPU.
In the tables below you can see the models launched and their main specs, including prices.
