The FX brand was first introduced with the Athlon 64 FX back in September 2003. It was used to indicate processors with clock multiplier unlocked. The company dropped the FX brand for its CPUs in 2007.

Today, AMD announced that it will be reintroducing the FX brand that will be used in their first processors based on the Bulldozer microarchitecture (codename Zambezi) due out later this year (August or September).
