Western Digital has just launched two 2 TB hard disks targeted to desktop and servers/NAS (Network Attached Storage): Caviar Black and RE4. Both hard disks make use of four 500 GB platters, have SATA-300 interface, 64 MB of buffer, work at 7,200 rpm, have two processors to increase performance and a dual-actuator system to improve accuracy over the data tracks. These new disks have 5-year warranty and 2 TB Caviar Black model is priced at USD 299, while 2 TB RE4 model is currently being qualified by OEMs.
Just to remember that until now Western Digital had only 2 TB spinning at 5,400 within their “Green” series.
