Nvidia this week introduced its Quadro Plex 1000 Visual Computing System (VCS). Available in 3U rackmount and desktop configurations, in three different models, the system provides performance of up to 80 billion pixels and 7 billion vertices per second with resolutions as high as 148 megapixels on 16 synchronized digital-output channels and eight HD SDI channels. Models I and III use two Quadro FX 5500 GPUs: the former accepts a G-Sync module while the latter gets an optional SDI module. The distinction, however, goes for model II, based on two dual-GPU Quadro FX 4500 X2, offering 8-dual link DVI, genlock/framelock, frame synchronization and 64x SLI FSAA. The systems are expected to ship in September with prices starting at USD 17,500.
