Planet Technology Intros High Speed VDSL2 Router

LAN Planet Technology announces the High Speed VDSL2 Router (VC-200M / VC-200S), based on two core networking technologies, Ethernet and VDSL2 (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line 2). According to the manufacturer, it offers the fastest data transmission speeds over existing copper telephone lines without the need for rewiring. The ideal situation, the date rate of VDSL2 can be up to 40 Mbps upstream and 100 Mbps downstream. It also features shared internet access, virtual servers and 4-Port switch.

Icron Technologies releases what it claims to be 'the industry’s first wireless USB 2.0 Hub based on an industry standard 802.11g radio'. The WiRanger Hub enables wireless connection of USB devices such as printers, scanners, hard drives, and MP3 players to PCs and Macs throughout the home or office.

Abit revealed the AirPace Wi-Fi, a PCI-Express 1x 802.11b/g card (up to 54Mbps). In Software AP mode, the AirPace Wi-Fi transforms your computer into an  Access Point, allowing other devices access the PC and its peripherals. In Client mode, AirPace Wi-Fi allows your PC to join an existing wireless network or use an Access Point to connect to the internet or intranet.

Marvell Develops WLAN-Bluetooth Chip

LAN Marvell has developed the first CMOS combining WiFi (802.11a/b/g) and Bluetooth connectivity. Aimed at mobile phones, media players, portable gaming consoles, PDAs and ultra-low-power computers, the 88W8688 chip allows optimized simultaneous dual radio operation and cooperative co-existence. It incorporates full Layer 3 networking support (TCP/IP and UDP) and adds the ability to run supplicants natively. The 90-nm chip also includes voice and audio codecs that can be used in a variety of media applications and platforms. Marvell has not specified a timetable for commercial availability.

ASUS Releases Multi-Use WLAN Router

LAN ASUSTek last week introduced the WL-600g, a multi-use gateway incorporating ADSL modem, wireless router and ftp/printer server functions. UPnP IGD-compliant, the equipment allows devices within the WLAN to share the same IP address and simultaneously play online games and use IP phones. The WL-600g also offers a Quick Setup feature, which automatically detects local ADSL ISP settings, and Plug-n'-Share functions, via USB 2.0 ports.

Groups closer to unified 802.11n specs

LAN The three groups originally battling over the next-generation 802.11n Wi-Fi standard have apparently reached an agreement to submit an unified proposal to the IEEE. The Joint-Proposal (JP) team formed by WWiSe, TGn Sync and MitMot members is meeting this week to finalize the specifications in accordance with the recently launched Enhanced Wireless Consortium (EWC) led by Intel. The 802.11n standard, set to be ready by the end of the year, is expected to allow data transfer speeds of up to 600 Mbps.

First WiMAX gear to be certified soon

LAN Representatives of the WiMAX Forum last week said that the first certifications of products supporting the IEEE 802.16 standard will be announced at the WCA International Symposium, set to happen from January 18 to 20, in San Jose, California. The group previously expected it to happen by the end of this year. Mobile networks based on WiMAX are expected to provide up to 15 Mbps of capacity within up to three kilometers.

LAN Aruba Networks introduced its Mobile Edge architecture for securely connecting mobile workers to enterprise VoIP and data networks. It is enabled by new controlled access points and updated ArubaOS software. The AP-65 allows users to create temporary corporate hotspots at any location with an available internet-connected Ethernet port while the low-cost AP-41 lets telecommuters and executives extend the corporate WLAN to their home offices.

VIA unveils 26-port Ethernet controller

LAN VIA has announced a layer 2+ 26-port switching Ethernet controller called Atlantic VT6528. Aimed at small to medium sized commercial networks, the chip supports 24 10/100 and two Gigabit ports. It features Advanced Packet Classifier for implementing 256-entry deep access control list for packet filtering. Other features include by-port egress/ingress bandwidth control, broadcast storm filtering, 16-bit PIO host interface with three DMA channels, HOL blocking prevention, 802.3ad aggregation and advanced congestion control.
