Samsung Unveils M80 SATA Series and M80 Series

Samsung introduces the new 2.5" hard disk drives M80 SATA Series and M80 Series, targeted for mobile computing, which increases storage capacity up to 160 GB. Both series utilize advanced Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology, the samsung's first based on this technology and feature a 8MB of onboard data cache and  400 rpm spindle speed. Manufacturer has also increased damage risk protection by incorporating industry-leading free-fall sensors, which provides shock tolerance.

The M80 SATA Series features the 80GB HM080HI, the 120GB HM120II and 160GB HM160JI. The M80 Series includes the 80GB HM080HC, the 120GB HM120IC and the 160GB HM160JC.

Kingmax its New SDHC Memory Generation

Kingmax unveils its new SDHC memory card generation . In comparison to Ver.1.1, the new Secure Digital High Capacity can store from 4 GB to 32 GB, though Kingmax has launched cards up to 8 GB. It also ensure complete compatibility with all products that support the SDHC specification. The SDHC cards are given speed class ratings for their minimum sustained write speed: Class 2 for 2 MB/sec, Class 4 for 4 MB/sec and Class 6 for 6 B/sec. Kingmax intend to drop costs of the production for SDHC memory card makes current storage media, such as VCD, DVD and hard disk drives, obsolete.

LiteOn claims to have the fastest DVD Writer in the world. The new 20X Super AllWrite LH-20A1P promises 5 minutes to backup 4.7 GB data on a single layer 16X DVD+R or DVD-R media. The LH-20A1P drive is able to write at the 20x speed in selected DVD +R/-R media.The drive also supports the SMART-WRITE technology, which detect and decide the optimal write strategy of DVD recordable media (DVD+R & DVD-R) for the best write quality.

It supports DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, DVD-RAM. LH-20A1P is able to rewrite certified DVD-RAM media at 12X maximum, write DVD+R DL ( Double Layer ) media & DVD-R DL ( Dual Layer ) media at 8X maximum, rewrite High-Speed DVD+RW at 8X maximum, rewrite High-Speed DVD-RW at 6X maximum, and read DVD-ROM media at 16X maximum and can write CD-R media at 48X maximum, rewrite Ultra-Speed CD-RW media at 32X maximum, and read CD-ROM media at 48X maximum.

Sony Intros James Bond's MicroVault

The new Bond movie has not been released yet and products with the familiar 007 logo start to appear in the market. Sony, which has already launched a Vaio notebook and a Cyber-Shot based on the character, now ships a 1 GB MicroVault USB drive bundled with Casino Royale's trailer.

Kingmax announces that its 2 GB microSD goes into mass production and will hit the stores soon. It is waterproof and dustproof and can store nearly 570 MP3 songs and 5000 photos, and plays MP4 high-definition videos for 12 hours non-stop. Its data transfer rates up to 12.5 MB/sec and promisses low battery consumption in small portable devices.

OCZ Announces SD Dual 133x Memory Card

OCZ Technology announced the addition of high-speed 133X parts to the OCZ Secure Digital “Dual” Series. The new memory cards introduce SD card and USB adaptor in one unit. OCZ SD Dual converts into a USB 2.0 connector eliminating the need for an independent card reader to transfer or view pictures or data on any PC.  It will be available in 1GB and 2GB capacities.

Hitachi Unveils Deskstar T7K500 and 7K160 HDDs

Hitachi announces worldwide availability of its Deskstar T7K500 and Deskstar 7K160 hard disk drives (HDDs). The Deskstar T7K500 features 7,200 RPM spin speeds, offering 4,17 ms average latency, and 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA (SATA) interfaces and comes in 500/400/320/250 GB capacity.
 
The Deskstar 7K160 operates at 7,200 rpm and offers average seek time of 4.17 ms. The drive is available with ATA-133 and Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s  interface. It is available in 80 GB and 160 GB capacity.

Both the T7K500  and the 7K160 feature Native Command Queuing (NCQ), enabling fast data transfer rates and up to 16 MB cache on SATA models.

Transcend Launches JetFlash 2A with 16 GB

Transcend released the JetFlash 2A USB 2.0 flash drive, which stores 16 GB of data. Its read speed is up to 25 MB/sec and its write speed up to 20 MB/sec. The JetFlash 2A comes with a few software applications like Auto Login, Data Backup, E-mail, SecureZip, PC-Lock and Favorites. It also comes with a LED that indicates the usage status of the product.

Seagate introduces new capacity points of its Maxtor OneTouch III storage.The Maxtor OneTouch III Turbo Edition is now available with up to 1.5 TB capacity of storage. The Maxtor OneTouch III single-drive desktop solution is now offered in up to 750GB and the Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition sports 160 GB. All the models provide a DriveLock to protect the contents of your drive. It is available for Mac and PC users.

Sony Launches 50 GB Blu-Ray Disc

The first 50 GB Blu-Ray disc will be available to consumers on Tuesday, when Sony Pictures releases the Adam Sandler comedy "Click". 50 GB is twice the capacity of a regular Blu-Ray media. The dual-layer disc promises to deliver the interactivity and extras in high-definition optical-disc and uncompressed PCM (pulse code modulation) audio.

"Click" is one of three 50GB Blu-ray Discs in the studio's pipeline. The others are Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down," coming November 14, and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," due December 12.

Toshiba announced the SD-L902A , a slim HD DVD drive for notebook PCs that can read and write to HD DVD, standard DVD and CD discs. It has 12.7 millimeters in height and offers 1x HD DVD-R writing for single and double layer, 3x for DVD-RAM, 2x/2.4x for DVD±R DL 4x for DVD±R SL, 4x for DVD±RW, 16x for CD-R and 10x for CD-RW. Reading capabilities of the drive include HD DVD SL/DL, HD DVD-ROM, DVD, and CD. It is expected to be shipped by the end of this year.

Seagate announces that its DB35 Series hard drives are shipping to DVR and digital entertainment device manufacturers for the next generation of DVRs.The new hard drives are now available in 250, 320, 400, 500 and 750 GB capacities. DynaPlay Technology from Seagate integrates HDDs into DVRs, allowing power, video streaming performance, acoustics and reliability. And capacities of up to 750GB enable services such as video on demand, high-definition DVRs and home media storage servers. The DB35 series offers ten simultaneous standard TV streams, up to 750 hours of standard TV capacity and up to 125 hours of high-definition capacity.
