Buffalo announced a new 18x Super-multi DVD burner based on the Pioneer DVR-212 series. The drive will be available in both external (USB2.0) and internal (S-ATA) versions, and they will offer 18x writing for DVD±R, 12x for DVD-RAM, 10x for DVD±R DL, 8x for DVD+RW and 6x for DVD-RW media. It will be launched at March.

Asus unveils the DRW-1814BLT Super-multi DVD burner, which claims to be the first one to offer a recording speed of 14x for the DVD-RAM media. Other features of the new SATA drive include the Lightscribe disc labeling capability, 18x writing for DVD±R, 8x for DVD±R DL and DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW and 48x/32x for CD-R and CD-RW, respectively.
It will be available first at the japanese market priced at around 6,500 Yen (USD 54).
Corsair announced the availability of the Corsair Flash Readout USB drive in new 4 GB and 8 GB capacities. The Flash Readout features a Bi-stable Cholesteric Display (BCD) showing data usage and availability. These drives have a customizable label that users can personalize and edit to identify the drives’ contents. It has an 11 character alphanumeric label display, a pie chart to indicate disk space usage and a four digit display showing available storage space. Its speed is 20 MB/s reading and 7 MB/s writing.
Seagate introduced what it claims to be the world's fastest hard drive. The Savvio 15K is a 2.5" drive and features 15K-rpm, promissing to be 12% than any driver. It is also 70% smaller, and decrases 30% the power consumption once compared with 15K-rpm 3.5-inch drives. The new HDs ship in the SAS interface at 36 GB and 73 GB capacities.
Verbatim launches the new Store 'n' Go Drive, an USB storage device with 12 GB. With this capacity, users can carry and access up to 12 hours of MPEG-1 video, about 6,000 300-DPI photos, 6 hours of DVD-quality video or tens of thousands of personal or business documents. It has a polymer enclosure to provide shock resistance to the HD inside. It measures 1.38 x 0.38 x 2.8 inches.
Toshiba unveils today a new line of 2.5" USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive, with capacities of 100 GB, 120 GB and 160 GB. The drives are packaged in sleek black aluminum housing with a blue power-on indicator light. They also incorporate Toshiba's shock mounting and ventilation system. The HDDs will be on stores at price points starting at USD 139.99.
Sandisk has unveiled today a new flash memory drive. The case is a 1.8-inch solid state drive (SSD), the same used in hard-drives. But the 32 GB of data is stored on flash chips.
The SanDisk SSD is more than 100 times faster than most HDs, says the manufacturer. It achieves a read rate of 62 MB/s and a random read rate of 7,000 IOPS. A laptop PC equipped with SanDisk SSD can boot Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise in as little as 35 seconds. Another advantage is the low power consumption rate: 0,4 W.
Axxen has released three new external HDD which also serve as a flash card reader. The A-3500, A-2500, and A-1800 comes in 3.5", 2.5", or 1.5" hard drive, respectively. The drives also features a 'one-touch' backup function The memory card reader is good for CF, SM, xD, MS, MSPro, MSDuo, SD, miniSD, MMC, and MD cards.
A BenQ announced its first 18X and 20X series of DVD burners: the DW1810 triple-writer DVD burner with Lightscribe support, the DW2000 20X DVD burner and its Lighscribe version, DW2010.
All drives support write and read multiple DVD (DVD+/- R/RW, and DVD-RAM) and CD formats. The DVD-RAM writing support allows direct "Drag and Drop recording" to a DVD-RAM media without using any burning software.
Plextor unveils portable hard disk drives that fits in your pocket (it has only 17 mm thick and 200 g in weight). In a brushed aluminium case, the PX-PH08U2 stores 80 GB of data and the PX-PH12U2 stores 120 GB. They both are Mac and PC compatible. It features up to 480 Mbps transfer rate (USB 2.0) and 5,400 RPM.
Fujitsu announced the MHX2300BT series of mobile hard disk drives (HDDs), the first 2.5" PMR with capacities of 250 GB and 300 GB. It has low power consumption at 1.6 W, high shock tolerance and near-silent operation. The HDD spins at 4,200 RPM with host transfer rate of 150 MB/s max. and is available in SATA 2.5 (ATA-8) interface.
The MHX2300BT series will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2007.
Samsung announces the first 18X Serial ATA DVD burner on the market today, the new WriteMaster SH-S183L. It has SATA interface and offers transfer rates of 150MB/s, 300MB/s and 600MB/s. The SH-S183L features 8X double layer DVD, 18x single layer DVD, 48x CD-R and 32x CD-RW writing. You can reset to Maxspeed mode by using Magic Speed Program.
