A-Data has just introduced the XM13 series of SSD drives compatible with the mSATA-300 interface. These drives are available in 30 GB and 60 GB versions, come in a 2.5” form factor, feature a SandForce SF-2141 controller, 25-nm MLC memory chips, and provide maximum read and write speeds of up to 280 MB/s and 260 MB/s, respectively.

New SATA-600 SSDs from Corsair

Corsair has expanded their SSD offering with the introduction of a 480 GB Force Series GT model and 180 GB and 480 GB Force Series 3 models. These new drives come in a 2.5-inch form factor and feature a SandForce SF-2280 controller.

The 480 GB Force Series GT model provides maximum read and write speeds of up to 555 MB/s and 525 MB/s, respectively, and costs USD 999, while 180 GB and 480 GB Force Series 3 models provide maximum read and write speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively, and costs USD 249 and USD 799, respectively.

Micron Announces Self-Encrypting SSD Drives

Micron has introduced the RealSSD C400 SED series of SSD drives which features a hardware-based, AES-256-bit encryption engine, and is available in 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB capacities. RealSSD C400 SED drives make use of 25 nm MLC memory chips, have SATA-600 interface, come in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors, and provide maximum read and write speeds of up to 500 MB/s and 260 MB/s, respectively.

OCZ Launches Synapse Cache SSDs

OCZ has launched a brand new line-up of SSD drives specifically designed for caching applications. Dubbed Synapse, theses drives come with the Dataplex cache software to dynamically copy your most commonly used applications from your hard disk drive to your SSD in order to speed up system boot and/or applications startup. It works similarly to Intel’s Smart Response Technology.

OCZ’s Synapse drives are available in 64 GB and 128 GB capacities, feature MLC memory chips, a 2.5-inch form factor, SATA-600 interface, and provides maximum read and write speeds of up to 550/490 MB/s (64 GB model) and 550/510 MB/s (128 GB model).

Seagate Launches 4 TB External Hard Drive

Seagate has expanded their GoFlex Desk family of external hard drives with the launch of a 4 TB model. This drive features USB 3.0 interface and comes with automatic and continuous backup software. It has a suggested price of USD 249.99.

A 4 TB GoFlex Desk model for Mac computers with FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 interfaces will be available by the end of this month.

Hitachi Unveils Hard Drives with 1 TB per Platter

Hitachi has announced their first 3.5-inch hard drives featuring 1 TB of storage capacity per disk (platter). It means that from now on, we will have on the market high-capacity hard drives with fewer platters and heads. With fewer components, hard drives’ prices tend to drop (at least we hope so).

The first products to utilize 1 TB platters will be launched within Hitachi’s Deskstar and CinemaStar series, with capacities ranging from 250 GB to 1 TB. All models will have SATA-600 interface and 32 MB of buffer.

HighPoint Launches Dual-Port USB 3.0 Expansion Card

HighPoint has launched an expansion card for those users interested in expanding the number of USB 3.0 ports provided by their motherboards. The RocketU 1022A is a PCI Express 2.0 x1 expansion card that offers two additional USB 3.0 ports. Each port delivers a maximum transfer rate of 5 Gbps, for a combined bandwidth up to 10 Gbps.

If the two USB 3.0 ports provided by the RocketU 1022A are not enough for you, HighPoint offers another model, dubbed RocketU 1144A, that comes with four USB 3.0 ports.

OCZ Releases RevoDrive Hybrid Storage Solution

OCZ has officially released the RevoDrive Hybrid, a hybrid SSD/hard drive solution. It is a PCI Express x4 card that comes with a 240 GB SSD drive to cache the most frequently accessed data on a 1 TB 2.5” hard disk drive. The SSD part of the device is managed by four SandForce SF-2200 controllers using a RAID 0 configuration and MLC chips. According to OCZ, this solution can deliver a maximum read transfer rate of 575 MB/s and a maximum write transfer rate of 500 MB/s. The OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid 1 TB has a suggested price of USD 499.99.

Corsair has expanded their Force Series GT family of SSD drives to include the 180 GB and 240 GB models, that join the 60 GB and 120 GB Force Series GT models already on the market.

These new drives come in a 2.5-inch form factor and feature a SATA-600 interface, MLC memory chips, a SandForce SF-2280 controller, and provide maximum read and write speeds of up to 555 MB/s and 525 MB/s, respectively.

Corsair Announces 90 GB SATA-600 SSD Drives

Corsair has expanded their Force Series 3 and Force Series GT series of SSD drives to include a 90 GB model with SATA-600 interface. This drive comes in a 2.5-inch form factor and features MLC memory chips and a SandForce SF-2200 controller. Speeds vary according to the series: 550 MB/s (read) and 500 MB/s (write) for the Force Series 3 model, and 555 MB/s (read) and 505 MB/s (write) for the Force Series GT model.

Corsair's 90 GB drives have a suggested retail price of USD 159 for the Force Series 3 model and USD 199 for the Force Series GT model.

Kingston Unveils HyperX SSD Series

Kingston has introduced their first SATA-600 SSD drives, the HyperX series. These drives are available in 120 GB and 240 GB versions, come in a 2.5” form factor, support TRIM, feature a SandForce SF-2281 controller, 25-nm MLC memory chips, and provide maximum read and write speeds of up to 555 MB/s and 510 MB/s, respectively.

Kingston HyperX drives are available as stand-alone products (USD 269.99 for the 120 GB model, and USD 519.99 for the 240 GB model) or as part of a HyperX Upgrade Kit (USD 284.99 for the 120 GB model, USD 539.99 for the 240 GB model). The HyperX Upgrade Kit includes the Acronis True Image HD migration software, an adapter to allow you to install the unit on a 3.5”  hard disk drive bay, a USB external drive bay, a multi-head screwdriver, and a SATA data cable.

Patriot has announced the launch of the Supersonic Xpress, a USB 3.0 flash drive that features a capless design with a retractable USB connector and comes with a two-channel memory controller that delivers read and write speeds up to 60 MB/s and 25 MB/s on 32 GB models, and up to 50 MB/s and 20 MB/s on 8 GB and 16 GB models, respectively.
