Sharkoon is expanding its Swift-Case line up of external hard drive enclosures by adding a model with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) access control, to protect against unauthorized access. Within the silver aluminium enclosure sits a RFID transceiver that responds solely to the accompanying RFID transponder. The transponder comes in a simple plastic fob design that attaches securely to key chains.

Users can establish a unique encryption key, so the hard drive can be locked or unlocked with a simple wave of the transponder in front of the sensor. The radio frequency is protected by 128-bit AES encryption.

The Swift-Case Securita transfers data to computers via USB 2.0. It will be available first in Europe for the suggested retail price of 34 euros (around US$ 50).

Using a special COB (Chip On Board) manufacturing technique that molds the memory chip and circuit board into the drive's unbreakable Polycarbonate casing, the T3 is more solid and robust than even full-sized flash drives, says the manufacturer.
