Pioneer releases a new Blu-Ray Combo writer for desktop. The model BDR-202 internal drive writes BD-R and BD-RE (rewritable) single-layer Blu-ray discs. The drive features BD/DVD/CD three-way compatible lens that allows high-speed recording. It is also compatible with CDs and DVDs.
Writes BD-R at 4x; BD-RE at 2x; DVD-R/+R at 12X; DVD-RW/+RW at 6x; and CD-R/RW at 24x. BDR-202 also comes with Ultra DRA technology, which suppresses vibration when writing. It is already available in Europe for around expected to retail for around USD 660.00.

Fujitsu announced the new MHY2 BS Series of 2.5" hard disk drives, which are designed for 24-hour continuous operation and are available in storage capacities of up to 200 GB. Models in this series have a disk speed of 5,400 rpm and Serial ATA interface.
Designed for industrial equipment and for enterprise applications, it delivers 24-hour continuous operation and high-frequency access, as well as for lower heat generation and reduced energy consumption.
The new series will be available in August.

Western Digital has announced the GreenPower Initiative and launched new hard drives that consume less electricity. WD says that with the increase of hard drive capacities, the power required to run those drives increases as well. The new eco-friendly family will include drives ranging in size from 320GB to 1TB.
Currently available 1 TB hard drives have a typical power consumption rating greater than 13.5 watts. New Green Power drives saves 4-5 watts over competitors' drives and guarantees the same performance. Its important to remember: consuming less power lowers the electricity bill as well.

Sony debuted its next-generation multi-function DVDirect DVD recorder, which can quickly transfer high-definition home videos and digital photos to DVD discs without using a computer.
The new VRD-MC5 model can now transfer AVCHD quality videos to DVD discs in their native 1080i HD resolution when connected directly to a Sony hard drive or Memory Stick Handycam camcorder. The DVD can be played back on compatible Blu-ray Disc devices.
The model includes Digital Video (i.LINK/FireWire/IEEE-1394), S-Video, Composite Video inputs, and USB. In addition, the VRD-MC5 can directly record digital photos to a DVD as a slideshow or just for photo storage from any of the five popular digital camera memory cards. It sports slots for Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Pro Duo media, Compact Flash, Secure Digital (SD/SDHC), and xD-picture card.
It comes with a built-in 2.5-inch color LCD screen and features automatic DVD menu and title creation.
VRD-MC5 will be available in August for about USD 230.

LG announces the first 6x Blu-Ray Burner. The GGW-H20N is the successor of the currently available GGW-H10N Super-multi Blue Blu-Ray /HD DVD combo drive. The new model can write 6x BD-R, 16x DVD+/-R, 40x CD-R and read 3x HD-DVD ROM.It also can burn BD-R DL (50GB) at 4x, which means that you will be able to write approximately 46 GB of data in less than 50 minutes. The drive will be available in the third quarter of the year.
