Patriot has officially launched Fusion series of solid state drives. Available in 64, 128 and 256 GB capacities, Fusion SSDs have 64 MB of buffer, SATA-300 interface, RAID support (0, 1, 0+1) and provide read and write speeds of up to 260 MB/s and 180 MB/s, respectively (64 GB model provides read speed of 220 MB/s and write speed of 135 MB/s). OCZ has officially introduced Z-Drive, a PCI Express x4 SSD unit equipped with a RAID controller and 256 MB buffer. Z-Drive is available in 250 GB (read speed up to 450 MB/s and write speed up to 300 MB/s), 500 GB (read speed up to 510 MB/s and write speed up to 480 MB/s) and 1 TB (read speed up to 500 MB/s and write speed up to 470 MB/s) capacities. Buffalo has launched a new external hard drive series, called MiniStation Cobalt HD-PEU2. Available in 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB capacities, these USB 2.0 hard drives measure 3.18” x 0.6” x 5.11” or 8.1 cm x 1.6 cm x 13 cm (W x H x D), weight 0.41 lbs (190 g) and come in red, black or white. Samsung has extended its EcoGreen F2EG hard disk line-up with the addition of a 1.5 TB model (featuring three 500 GB platters). According to Samsung this disk consumes 45% less power (during normal operation) than competing products. This disk has a SATA-300 interface and 32 MB buffer. Samsung EcoGreen F2EG is also available in 500 GB and 1 TB capacities. The 1.5 TB EcoGreen F2EG has a recommended price tag of USD 149.

Western Digital has launched a NAS unit (a networking hard disk) called My Book World Edition. This device is available in 1 TB and 2 TB versions and can be easily installed on a network to share files among users. Its USB 2.0 port allows the installation of an external hard disk to share files or to expand My Book World Edition storage capability. My Book World Edition read and write speeds is nearly 30 MB/s and 20 MB/s, respectively, and it measures 6.8" x 5.78" x 2.28" or 17.3 cm x 14.7 cm x 5.8 cm (H x L x P) and weights 2.4 lbs (1.09 kg). A-Data has introduced XPG 3.5" SSD HDD enclosure. Hard disk drive enclosures are cases for you to install a hard disk drive outside the computer, being a terrific way to carry a huge amount of data around, for backing up data, for storing and carrying files from home to the office and vice-versa, for storing and carrying videos, etc. A-Data XPG 3.5” SSD can hold either one 3.5” SATA drives or two 2.5” SSDs. It also works as a hard driver converter, turning up to two 2.5" SATA SSDs into a 3.5" SATA drive. The product has been designed for both internal (using a 3 ½” internal bay) or external purpose and comes with two 2.5" SATA II SSDs with capacities from 32GBx2 up to 384GBx2. ioSafe will unveil later this month a USB external hard disk drive line-up that the company claims to be waterproof and fireproof. Named Solo, hard disk drives from this series will be available in 500 GB, 1 TB and 1,5 TB capacities. According to the manufacturer Solo hard drives are able to withstand fires rated up to 1,550° F (815ºC) and can also be submersed in fresh or salt water for 3 days at a depth down to 10 feet (3 m). With three-year warranty, the 500 GB, 1 TB and 1.5 TB ioSafe Solo hard drives will reach the market later this month costing USD 200, USD 250 and USD 350, respectively.
