After Western Digital, now it’s Seagate’s turn to bring out to the market a USB 3.0 external hard disk. BlackArmor PS110 (ST905003BPA1ES-RK) is a 2.5” model with 500 GB of storage space, spins at 7,200 rpm, measures 0.49” x 3.15” x 5.12” or 12.5 cm x 8 cm x 13 cm (H x W x L), weighs 0.39 lbs (178 g) and is priced in the USA at USD 179.99. This disk comes with a USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter for laptops. According to Seagate BlackArmor PS110 offers an average transfer rate of 100 MB/s (USB 3.0) and 30 MB/s (USB 2.0).

Thecus has expanded its NAS (Network Attached Storage) device line-up with the launch of N4200. This new model allows the installation of up to four 2.5” or 3.5” SATA-300 hard disk drives (8 TB max), supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD, features six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, a PCI Express x1 slot, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, wireless networking 802.11 b/g and two LCD displays where you can monitor/configure the status of the unit. N4200 is equipped with two Intel Atom D510 processors (1.66 GHz). No word on pricing and availability.

A-DATA has just launched a flash drive (that looks like a SSD drive, by the way) equipped with SATA-300 and USB 3.0 connections. N002 is available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB and makes use of a 8-channel architecture which enable the drive to deliver read and write speeds of up to 200 MB/s and 170 MB/s, respectively. N002 flash drive will reach the market next month, but its price has not been disclosed.

InnoDisk has just introduced its Matador series of SSD drives. These new SSD drives from InnoDisk are available in capacities ranging from 128 GB to 2 TB, have a PCI Express x8 interface and provide read and write speeds of 800 MB/s and 600 MB/s, respectively. No word on pricing and availability.

Seagate has officially announced Momentus Thin series of 2.5” hard disks targeted to notebooks. Disks from this series are 25% slimmer than regular 2.5” disks thanks to the use of a wafer-thin 7mm in height (regular 2.5” models are 9.5mm thick). Momentus Thin disks have SATA-300 interface, 8 MB of cache, spin at 5,400 rpm and are available in 160 GB and 250 GB capacities. Seagate is going to start shipping these disks to OEMs and integrator partners in January 2010.

Micron has announced the industry's first SATA-600 SSD series, RealSSD C300. These SSD drives will be available in 1.8” and 2.5” form factors and in 128 GB and 256 GB capacities. The expected maximum transfer rate is 355 MB/s (read) and 215 MB/s (write). According to the manufacturer RealSSD C300 will enter in mass production in Q1 2010. Below you can watch a comparison between the new Micron SATA-600 SSD drive and a standard 7,200 rpm hard disk.
