Patriot Expands its Inferno Series of SSD Drives

Patriot has expanded its Inferno series of SSD drives with the launch of 60 GB, 120 GB, and 240 GB models to add to the current lineup of 100 GB, and 200 GB drives. The Inferno SSD drives make use of MLC memory chips, have a SandForce SF-1200 controller and SATA-300 interface, and provide read and write speeds of up to 285 MB/s and 275 MB/s, respectively. There’s no word on pricing yet.

Toshiba Announces Two New 2.5“ Hard Drive Series

Toshiba has announced the launch of two new families of 7,200 rpm, 2.5” SATA hard drives: MKxx61GSY and MKxx61GSYB. Members of the MKxx61GSY family are available in 160 GB, 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB, and 640 GB capacities, have a SATA-300 interface, 16 MB buffer, seek time of 12 ms, and maximum noise level of 26 dBA, and are targeted to the notebook market. The MKxx61GSYB family includes models of 80 GB, 160 GB, 250 GB, and 500 GB with a SATA-300 interface, 16 MB buffer, seek time of 10.5 ms, and a maximum noise level of 26 dBA, and are targeted to the networking market (routers, switches, servers, etc). Toshiba has started shipping the MKxx61GSY models, with volume production scheduled in the third quarter of 2010. The MKxx61GSYB models will be available in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Corsair Expands its Force Series of SSD Drives

Corsair has expanded its Force series of SSD drives with the launch of 40 GB, 80 GB, and 160 GB models to add to the current lineup of 60 GB, 120 GB, and 240 GB drives. The Force SSD drives make use of MLC memory chips, have a SandForce SF-1200 controller and SATA-300 interface, and provide read and write speeds of up to 285 MB/s and 275 MB/s, respectively. The 40 GB, 80 GB, and 160 GB models will arrive on the market next month with suggested prices of USD 129.99, USD 229.99, and USD 449.99, respectively.

A-Data Intros S596 Turbo SSD Series

A-Data has introduced the S596 Turbo series of 2.5” SSD drives. Available in 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB capacities, these new A-Data SSD units make use of MLC flash memory chips, have a SATA-300 interface and 128 MB DDR2 buffer, and are controlled by a JMicron JMF616 chip, providing read and write speeds of up to 210 MB/s and 260 MB/s, respectively. There’s no word on pricing and availability.

New External Hard Disk from Apricon with Biometric Identification

Apricon has expanded its USB 2.0 external hard disk series with the launch of the 640 GB model. The main feature of these disks is the biometric identification system based on fingerprint reading. Before accessing the data stored on the disk, the user must put their finger on the sensor for verification. The information stored on the disk is protected with 128-bit AES encryption. Besides the 640 GB model, the Aegis Bio family has several other models, as you can see below.

OCZ Launches RevoDrive PCI-Express SSD Drive

OCZ has officially launched the RevoDrive series of SSD drives based on the PCI Express x4 interface. Available in 120 GB and 240 GB capacities, these new drives provide read and write speeds of up to 540 MB/s and 490 MB/s, respectively. The 120 GB model is priced at USD 390, while the 240 GB model is priced at USD 700.

Super Talent has announced the launch of the ShuttleCraft series of 2.5” SSD drives, targeted to the enterprise market. Available in 60 GB, 120 GB, and 240 GB models, these new drives make use of SLC (60 GB and 120 GB models) and MLC (120 GB and 240 GB models) chips and have a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface. They will reach the market next month. No word on pricing yet.

OCZ has launched the Vertex 2 and Onyx series of 1.8” SSD drives, specially designed for netbooks, ultra-thin laptops and tablet PCs. Onyx SSD drives come in 32 GB and 64 GB capacities, have SATA-300 interfaces, 64 MB of cache and provide read and write speeds of 145 MB/s and 120 MB/s, respectively (135 MB/s and 70 MB/s for the 32 GB model). Vertex 2 drives are available in 60 GB, 120 GB and 240 GB capacities, have SATA-300 interfaces and provide speeds of 285 MB/s and 275 MB/s, respectively. No word on pricing.

Corsair has expanded its Padlock 2 series of USB flash drives with the launch of a 16 GB model. This new drive features a ruggedized rubber housing, USB 2.0 interface, 256-bit hardware encryption and a user-defined PIN (Personal Identification Number) that can be entered via the built-in keypad.
