MSI releases MEGA 521 MP3 player

MSI released the MEGA 521, an MP3 player that offers a series of additional features: FM receiver with 15 memory positions (optional), voice and FM recording, pedometer and stopwatch. As usual, it also works as an USB flash disk The player measures 82 x 51 x 18,6 mm and weighs 60 g (with built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery). It sports a 23 x 12 mm OLED display and is available in 128 MB, 256 MB and 512 MB capacities.

Wireless media player from Netgear

Netgear announced its new MP115 networked digital home entertainment solution, allowing access to video, photo, and music file collections from anywhere within the home network. The device streams content wirelessly from PCs to TVs and home stereo systems through 802.11b and 802.11g networks. The player includes software that catalogs all digital image and music files stored on the network. Compatible file formats include MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, MP3 (up to 320 kbps), Windows Media Audio (WMA8 and WMA 9), WAV, M3U and PLS. The MP115 interfaces with other home theater devices through stereo audio, composite video, component video, S-Video jacks and SCART interface (for Europe and Australia). Suggested retail price is USD 220.

Samsung announces giant plasma screen

CE Samsung has allegedly completed development of a 102-inch high density plasma monitor codenamed Atlas. The equipment has 1920x1080 resolution and a constrast ratio of 2000:1. Its measurements are equally wondrous: 7.2 x 4.2 ft. Samsung has not defined pricing or availability, but the giant plasma monitor should be on sale on H1 2005.

Sony adds MP3 support to player

CE Sony will start selling this month its first HD-based audio player with native MP3 support. The NW-HD3 offers the same 20 GB as the previous models (NW-HD1 and NW-HD2) and keeps support for the company´s ATRAC3plus proprietary format. Measuring 90 x 62.1 x 14.8 mm, weighing 130 g and sporting a 1.5 inch display, the new player promises bigger battery life: 30 hours with ATRAC files and 22 hours with MP3. The NW-HD3 will be first released in Japan (USD 410) and the UK (USD 470), arriving in the rest of Europe one month later.

Apple releases iPod Photo

Apple has released a version of its iPod music player called Photo, featuring a 2-inch (220x176) color screen for displaying images. An included AV cable enables connectivity to a TV or video projector. The iPod Photo also includes a dock with audio and video out, earbud headphones, 1.2m 30-pin to FireWire cable, a 1.2m 30-pin to USB cable, AC adapter, black carrying case and a CD with iTunes 4.7 for Mac and Windows computers. The player is available in 40 GB (USD 499) or 60 GB (USD 599) capacities.

Sony announced two new Network Walkman MP3 players with up to 1 GB of storage capacity. The NW-E95 (512 MB) and NW-E99 (1 GB) use the ATRAC3plus file format. The players - weighing only 40 g - will be on the market at the end of november with price tags of USD 255 (NW-E95) and USD 300 (NW-E99).

Olympus unveils MP3 player with camera

Olympus unveiled a HD-based music player that can also take photos. The m:robe 500 player combines a 20GB built-in hard drive and a cell-phone-quality camera (1.22 megapixel) into the same unit. The 3.7-inch LCD screen controls both the player and the camera. Photos can be directly printed through any PictBridge-enabled printer via USB 2.0. The m:robe 500 player won´t appear in stores until January 2005 though. Estimated price is USD 499.99.

Elitegroup Computer System (ECS) launched EZ-Buddie 2, a personal entertainment center in a compact package (220 x 180 x 320 mm). Among other features, it tunes into FM radio stations and displays photos from a memory card or disc. With dual operating systems, EZ-Buddie 2 works without booting Windows. It is operated through a remote controller and has a variety of monitoring features. EZ-Buddie 2 is available with a range of Pentium 4 processors and Celeron processors and up to 2 GB dual channel DDR400 memory. The speakers are optional.

Dell launches Axim X50v and X50 PDAs

Dell introduced two new Axim handhelds, the X50v and the X50, featuring Intel's Xscale PXA270 and 2700G graphics chip (X50v). The Axim X50v features a 3.7" VGA display that provides images at 640x480 resolution while the Axim X50 has a 3.5" QVGA display with a 320x240 resolution. Both promises extend battery life and enhanced multimedia performance through the Xscale PXA270. The handhelds run on Widows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and include the new Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. A headset connection supports voice over Internet protocol and voice recognition applications and both models include integrated Bluetooth 1.2.

Dell X50Axim X50v features include:

  • 624 MHz Intel Xscale PXA270 processor
  • 128 MB Flash ROM and 64 MB SDRAM with XMB (cross media bar) on-screen navigation to access memory
  • Integrated 802.11b Wi-Fi
  • Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator with 16 MB of video memory

Axim X50 features include:

  • 416 MHz or 520 MHz Intel Xscale PXA270 processor
  • 64 MB Flash ROM with 64 MB SDRAM memory for the 416 MHz model and 128 MB Flash ROM with 64 MB SDRAM memory for the 520 MHz model. Both support XMB.
  • Integrated 802.11b Wi-Fi (520 MHz model only)

TwinMOS released a new digital music player and USB 2.0 flash disk. The Red Rock S21 supports MP3, WMA and WAV formats and is offered in 128 MB, 256 MB and 512 MB capacities. Featuring a blue backlit LCD screen, the player also includes 5 equalizing modes, digital recording function and FM tuner and recording. The S21 measures 73,6 x 24 x 27,8 mm, weighs 50g (including an AAA battery) and is available in red, purple, light blue and silver. It comes with a leather pouch.

BenQ launched the new Joybee 125, a digital multi-functional music player (MP3, WMA and WAV) with 128 MB or 256 MB capacity. It weighs 41g and features a blue backlit LCD screen. It is also equipped with a retractable USB 1.1 port for easy data storage and a Li-Ion battery that allows listeners to play up to 10 hours of music. The Joybee 125, available in orange, silver and black, also includes a FM tuner and voice recording.
