ASUS Announces Enthusiast ROG Series

ASUS has announced its new Republic of Gamers (ROG) enthusiast motherboard series. The first model is an nForce 590 SLI (AM2) dubbed Crosshair. Special features include LCD Poster, a diagnostic display which uses full text to describe errors, instead of an alphanumeric code. The mobo also brings 8-phase polymer aluminum electrolyte capacitors, back I/O panel lighting and SupremeFX audio capable of 24-bit/192 KHz quality on eight channels. It supports DDR2-800 memory, Nvidia’s SLI scheme (with full x16 speed), eight Serial ATA 3 Gb/s ports and dual Gigabit LAN. The Crosshair is bundled with 3DMark06 Advanced Edition.

ASRock Launches K8T890 AM2 Mobo

ASRock has launched another motherboard based on VIA’s K8T890 “CF” chipset, which is very similar to the old K8T890, but officially supports AM2 processors and the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. The ALiveSATA2-GLAN upgrades the recently released AM2V890-VSTA by adding Serial ATA II and Gigabit Ethernet support. Complete specifications are as follows:

Gigabyte Bundles Kaspersky with Mobos

Motherboard Gigabyte is now bundling a three-month trial version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 with selected motherboards. The initiative starts with Core 2 Duo-aimed P965 Express models such as the recently introduced GA-965P-DQ6 (“6-Quad”). After the stipulated period users can buy the product in Kaspersky Labs online store with a 20% discount.

Intel Launches 946PL/GZ Chipsets

Motherboard Intel has launched two mainstream chipsets that update the current 945 Express family. Both the 946PL and 946GZ Express support upcoming Core 2 Duo processors, 800 MHz frontside bus and DDR2-667 memory. The 946GZ also brings the new GMA 3000 integrated video. Other specifications include a PCI Express x16 interface, four Serial ATA 3 Gb/s, Matrix Storage Technology (RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10) and high-definition audio.

EPoX Launches RD580 AM2 Motherboard

EPoX this week officially announced its EP-MD580 XR motherboard. It is based on ATI’s RD580 (CrossFire Xpress 3200) and aimed at socket AM2 processors. The RD580 is paired with the SB600 south bridge which solves some problems found in the SB450. EPoX’s board includes hardware monitoring software (Thunder Probe and Ghost Monitor), BIOS tool Thunder Flash, led debugging system (Ledion) and on-board power switch (EZ Button). Intel Intros P965 Express Chipset

Motherboard Intel introduced today, at Computex, its first Broadwater chipset, the P965 Express, pitched at Core 2 Duo processors (Conroe). It brings some new technologies, such as Fast Memory Access (FMA), to optimize system memory bandwidth, and Quiet System, which promises to reduce noise and heat. Other specs include DDR2-800 support, 1,066 MHz FSB, PCI Express x16, six Serial ATA 3 Gb/s ports, six PCI Express x1 slots, ten USB 2.0 ports, high-definition audio and Gigabit Ethernet LAN. Diagrams showed that Intel dropped PATA and PCI support. The Broadwater model with on-board graphics, dubbed G965, should arrive soon. Conroe is expected to launch on July 23.

EVGA, which entered the mobo segment about a year ago, recently added an nForce 4 SLI model to its lineup. The NF44 (131-K8-NF44-AX) is aimed at socket 939 AMD processors and supports two VGA cards in SLI mode (but with just x8 effective bandwidth in each PCI Express slot). ASUS this week introduced its P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, aimed at Core 2 Duo processors, featuring a series of digital home features activated with a remote control. Gigabyte Launches Socket AM2 Series

Motherboard Gigabyte last week announced six motherboards as part of its new S-series. The parts, based on nForce 590 SLI, nForce 570 SLI, nForce 4 SLI and nForce 6100, are aimed at AMD socket AM2 processors. The flagship GA-M59SLI-S5 sports silent-pipe cooling technology, SLI and a variety of proprietary security, management and overclocking utilities. Using a nForce 590 SLI chipset, it features DDR2-800 memory support, dual Gigabit connections, LinkBoost (which increases PCI Express bandwidth), six Serial ATA 3 Gb/s ports and eight-channel high-def audio with DTS and Dolby.

ATI Announces Integrated AM2 Chipsets

Motherboard ATI has also announced a new chipset series aimed at AMD’s AM2 platform. The Radeon Xpress 1100 and 1150 feature integrated Radeon X300 graphics (DirectX 9 and Shader Model 2.0) clocked at 300 MHz and 400 MHz, respectively, and capable of addressing up to 128 MB of memory through HyperMemory. The PCI Express chipsets are paired with ATI’s new SB600 southbridge, which supports four Serial ATA 3 Gb/s, ATA-133, ten USB 2.0 ports, six PCI slots and high-def audio. ATI said that its CrossFire Xpress 3200 lineup will also be offered for AM2 processors.

Nvidia Intros nForce 500 Chipset Series

Motherboard As expected, Nvidia this week launched its nForce 500 chipset series, mainly aimed at AMD’s socket AM2 processors. New features include LinkBoost, which increases PCI Express bandwidth when paired with compliant GPUs, and FirstPacket, which prioritizes network game traffic. The series also introduces native dual Gigabit connections (DualNet) and support for six SATA 3 Gb/s ports with RAID 5 (MediaShield). The 590 SLI, also available for Intel platforms, is the only “full” model. The nForce 570 SLI and 570 lack LinkBoost, while the 550 misses FirstPacket, DualNet and two SATA ports. Other common specs include ten USB ports, five PCI slots and high-definition audio.

Albatron Early with Socket AM2 Mobo

Motherboard Albatron stole a march on AMD by announcing its first socket AM2 motherboard before the official release of the chips. The KM51PV-AM2 is based on the somewhat old GeForce 6150 chipset, launched about eight months ago, featuring GeForce 6200-like integrated graphics. It sports basically the same specs as the socket-939 KM51PV: up to 4 GB of memory (DDR2), Serial ATA 3 Gb/s, RAID 0, 1, 5 and 0+1, Ethernet 10/100 with Active Armor and VGA, DVI and HDTV-Out connectors.

ATI Announces Turion 64 X2 Chipset

Motherboard ATI has announced a new mobile chipset aimed at AMD’s recently released Turion 64 X2 lineup. The Radeon Xpress 1100 series features support for DDR2-667 memory, 1 GHz Hyper-Transport bus, seven PCI slots, four PCI Express x1 slots, two PATA and four SATA ports, eight USB ports and eight-channel audio (AC’97). Video is provided by an integrated Radeon X1300 graphics chip compatible with DirectX 9, but not with Shader Model 3.0. The GPU is clocked at 300 MHz in the 1100 model and at 400 MHz in the 1150. ATI has said that the Vista-ready chipset will be sported in notebooks from Fujitsu, Gateway and HP, among others.
