Gigabyte added a new board to its 8Σ nForce4 lineup – aimed at socket 939 Athlon 64 and 64 FX processors – supporting multiple VGA cards through Scalable Link Interface (SLI). The Nvidia chipset brings other new features such as Serial ATA II support and NV firewall. The GA-K8NXP-SLI, being part of Gigabyte´s 8Σ series, also includes Dual Power System (DPS), Dual Gigabit LAN and ShieldWare tools.

Albatron announces VIA K8T890 board

Albatron announced its first VIA K8T890 board, the K8X890 Pro, for 939-pin Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors. It includes one PCI-E x16 for a VGA card and one PCI-E x4 slot. Albatron also implemented a new type of power supply system on the board. The Power Width Modulation (PWM) module adds a fourth phase to the original three phases of the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM). The K8X890 Pro´s main features are:

Intel introduces BTX products

Motherboard Intel introduced a bunch of products compatible with the Balanced Technology Extended (BTX) format for use in the worldwide distribution channel. The list includes microBTX boxed motherboards (BOXD915GMHLK and BOXD915GMHL) featuring integrated graphics and PCI Express. The first one offers additional features such as advanced audio and FireWire support. Intel is also launching boxed processors (530J, 550J and 560J) with BTX Type I thermal modules. Previously BTX PCs were available only from OEMs, but now should be offered by the channel too. The components require power supplies and cases compatible with the new form factor.

ATI unveils Radeon Xpress 200 chipsets

Motherboard ATI unveiled its new Radeon Xpress 200 and Radeon Xpress 200P chipsets for socket 754 and 939 AMD processors. They are identical except for the absence of DirectX 9 integrated graphics (based on the Radeon X300) on the 200P version. The chipsets include 1 GHz HyperTransport bus support, one PCI-E x16 slot for add-in graphics cards, four PCI-E x1 slots, four Serial ATA ports (RAID 0,1), eight USB 2.0 ports and AC97 audio. A number of partners has already annouced products based on the new chipsets.

Gigabyte released its first nForce4 board, the GA-K8NXP-9, part of its 8-Sigma series. The board, supporting socket 939 Athlon 64 and 64 FX processors, features PCI Express, Serial ATA II support and Nvidia's firewall. DFI launches Pentium M motherboard

DFI will start selling a Pentium M motherboard for desktops, the 855GME-MGF, this month. Based on the Intel mobile 855GME/6300 ESB chipset, it supports socket 479 Pentium M processors, bringing low noise and low energy consumption to the desktop. The 855GME-MGF is based on the standard Micro ATX form factor and features support for DDR333 memory and AGP 4x. For overclockers, advanced BIOS features include adjustable CPU clock (100 to 250 MHz), adjustable CPU ratio (6 to infinite), adjustable FSB to memory ratio (1:1, 4:3, 5:3), asynchronized PCI/AGP modes (33/66, 36/73, 40/80) and built-in stability testing for both memory and CPU. MSI unveils 925XE Neo Platinum

MSI also introduced a motherboard based on the i925XE chipset supporting 1066 MHz bus – introduced with the recently released 3.46 GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition – and Matrix RAID technology. DFI LANParty used to reach 6.3 GHz

Motherboard A user named Fugger allegedly overclocked a 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 to 6.3 GHz. He achieved the feat using a DFI LANParty 875P-T motherboard, Centon Advanced DDR memory, OCZ DDR Booster and Chilly1 Three-Stage CPU Cascade. At 6.3 GHz, his overclocked Pentium 4 560 processor had a front bus speed of 1800 MHz.

Nvidia announces nForce4 chipsets

Motherboard Nvidia announced its new nForce4 family of PCI Express chipsets designed to 939-pin Athlon 64 processors. The basic version has one PCI-E x16 slot for graphics cards, three PCI-E x1 slots, four Serial ATA ports, two ATA-133 ports, RAID 0, 1 and 0+1, USB 2.0, AC97 audio, hardware firewall and Gigabit Ethernet. The nForce4 Ultra and SLI adds support for Serial ATA II (3 Gb/s), a secure networking engine called ActiveArmor and a new optimization application called nTune. The SLI version, as is shown by its name, includes Nvidia´s multi-GPU solution.
