ABIT has resumed its relationship with Nvidia with the release of the NF8 motherboard, based on the nForce3 250Gb chipset, supporting 754-pin Athlon 64 and Sempron processors. It includes integrated Nvidia Gigabit Ethernet and firewall. The NF8 also features ThermalGuard technology and BulletProof standards, promising extended durability.

The features include:

  • 800 MHz HyperTransport FSB
  • DDR400/333/266 memory support
  • 2x DIMM sockets (2 GB max.)
  • 2x Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 
  • 2x SATA 150 connectors
  • 1x AGP 8x slot
  • 5x PCI slots
  • On-board GbE LAN controller
  • Integrated firewall
  • 6 channel AC’97 audio
  • 8x USB2.0 ports
  • IEEE1394 ports (optional)
  • ATX form factor

ABIT announces AX8 (VIA K8T890)

ABIT has formally announced its AX8 motherboard, the first based on VIA's K8T890, a PCI Express chipset for 939-pin Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors. It includes one PCI-E x16 and three PCI-E x1 slots. Like other ABIT motherboards, it features the µGuru overclocking technology. AX8's main features are the following:

  • VIA K8T890 chipset with VT8237 South Bridge
  • 1 GHz HyperTransport FSB
  • Dual channel DDR400/333/266 memory support
  • 4x DIMM sockets (4 GB max.)
  • 3x Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 connectors 
  • 4x SATA 150 connectors for SATA RAID 0/1/0+1
  • On-board GbE LAN controller
  • 6 channel AC’97 audio
  • 8x USB2.0 ports
  • 3x IEEE1394 ports
  • 2x PCI slots
  • ATX form factor

Nvidia announces nForce4 chipsets

Motherboard Nvidia announced its new nForce4 family of PCI Express chipsets designed to 939-pin Athlon 64 processors. The basic version has one PCI-E x16 slot for graphics cards, three PCI-E x1 slots, four Serial ATA ports, two ATA-133 ports, RAID 0, 1 and 0+1, USB 2.0, AC97 audio, hardware firewall and Gigabit Ethernet. The nForce4 Ultra and SLI adds support for Serial ATA II (3 Gb/s), a secure networking engine called ActiveArmor and a new optimization application called nTune. The SLI version, as is shown by its name, includes Nvidia´s multi-GPU solution.

Gigabyte has released its GA-8TRX330-L motherboard, which is based on ATI’s first discrete motherboard chipset: RX330. Accordingly to Gigabyte this chipset was exclusive developed for Gigabyte. This chipset competes with Intel's 865PE. Its main features are:
