VIA unveils three PCI Express chipsets

Motherboard VIA unveiled three new chipsets aimed at Pentium 4 platforms: the PT880 Pro, PT894 and PT894 Pro. All of them support 1066 MHz FSB and both DDR400 and DDR2-667 memory. The PT880 Pro features the capacity of using PCI Express and AGP graphics cards alternately or simultaneously on the same motherboard through VIA's Universal Graphics Interface (UGI). The PT894 Pro, on its turn, supports dual PCI Express VGA cards through one PCI-E x16 and one PCI-E x4 connection. Both are able to connect up to four displays. The new North Bridges are to be paired with the long running VT8237 South Bridge or the forthcoming VT8251 sporting SATA II, RAID 5 and High Definition audio support.

AOpen announces i915GM board

AOpen has announced a desktop motherboard based on the new i915GM Centrino chipset. The i915GM-FHS supports 533 MHz FSB Pentium Ms, PCI Express interface, DDR2 and Serial ATA II and is aimed at low-noise PCs. The board has on-board Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 video. It is expected to ship in March. The complete specs are:

Nvidia unveils nForce Professional MCPs

Motherboard Nvidia announced a new family of PCI Express chipsets, the nForce Professional, aimed at the Opteron/Athlon 64 server and workstation market. The 2200 chip has 20 configurable PCI-E lanes, four Serial ATA II ports, two ATA-133 ports, RAID 0, 1 and 0+1, NCQ support, ten USB 2.0 slots, 8-channel AC´97 audio and Gigabit Ethernet. Another chip, the 2050, extends the functionality of the 2200 with 20 additional PCI-E lanes, four Serial ATA II ports and Gibabit Ethernet connectivity. The 2200 can be combined with up to three 2050 companion chips. Additionally, Nvidia launched Quadro graphics cards supporting Scalable Link Interface (SLI).

DFI releases LANParty nForce4 boards

DFI released two LANParty motheboards based on nForce4 chipsets for socket-939 AMD processors. Both the LANParty UT nF4 SLI-D and the LANParty UT nF4 Ultra-D bring features like Serial ATA II with Native Command Queuing (NCQ) support and NV firewall, but the former also includes SLI technology for multiple VGA cards. For overclocking enthusiasts, the boards offers memory voltage support from 2.5 V to 4.0 V, CPU core voltage up to 2.1 V, chipset voltage from 1.5 V to 1.8 V, HTT ranging from 1.2 to 1.5, adjustable multiplier control up to 20x and Async settings. The packages include matching colour UV reactive round and SATA cables.

Biostar adds new i915P motherboard

Biostar extended its 775-pin Pentium 4 lineup with the introduction of a new i915-based motherboard. The I915P-A7 has all the usual specifications, such as 800 MHz FSB support, 4 GB of DDR-400 memory and a PCI Express x16 slot for graphic cards. It also sports proprietary overclocking management technologies WarpSpeeder and WatchDog.

MSI releases nForce4 SLI motherboard

MSI launched two motherboards based on nForce4 chipsets. The K8N Neo Platinum is based on the Ultra version, which brings Serial ATA II compatibility and NV firewall, among other features. The highlight though is the K8N Diamond, based on the nForce4 SLI, sporting multiple VGA cards support through Scalable Link Interface, Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit audio and Wi-Fi (802.11g) and Bluetooth connectivity.

The K8N Diamond´s main specifications are the following:

Albatron announced two motherboards based on the ULi M1689 single-chip solution: the K8Ultra-U and K8Ultra-U Pro. The company claims that the boards, aimed at 754-pin AMD processors, provide a variety of features with 64-bit driver support designed to the forthcoming Windows XP 64-bit Edition. The products also include BIOS overclocking options for frequency and voltage adjustments. Full specs are:

Gigabyte added a new board to its 8Σ nForce4 lineup – aimed at socket 939 Athlon 64 and 64 FX processors – supporting multiple VGA cards through Scalable Link Interface (SLI). Albatron announces VIA K8T890 board

Albatron announced its first VIA K8T890 board, the K8X890 Pro, for 939-pin Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors. It includes one PCI-E x16 for a VGA card and one PCI-E x4 slot. Albatron also implemented a new type of power supply system on the board. The Power Width Modulation (PWM) module adds a fourth phase to the original three phases of the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM). The K8X890 Pro´s main features are:

Intel introduces BTX products

Motherboard Intel introduced a bunch of products compatible with the Balanced Technology Extended (BTX) format for use in the worldwide distribution channel. The list includes microBTX boxed motherboards (BOXD915GMHLK and BOXD915GMHL) featuring integrated graphics and PCI Express. The first one offers additional features such as advanced audio and FireWire support. Intel is also launching boxed processors (530J, 550J and 560J) with BTX Type I thermal modules. Previously BTX PCs were available only from OEMs, but now should be offered by the channel too. The components require power supplies and cases compatible with the new form factor.
