AMD Unveils 890GX Chipset

AMD has officially launched 890GX chipset, which brings native support to SATA-600 ports (six) and to the upcoming Phenom II X6 processor (codename Thuban). 890GX chipset works together with the new SB850 south bridge chip, features a DirectX 10.1 (Radeon HD 4290) graphics engine, a PCI Express 2.0 x16 lane that can be split-up into two x8 lanes if necessary and SidePort feature, which is an optional memory chip soldered on the motherboard in order to increase performance. Several manufacturers have already launched models based on this newest AMD chipset, as you can see below.

ASUS Unveils Low-Radiation Motherboards

ASUS has announced a motherboard line-up featuring ASUS Protect 3.0 technology, which according to the manufacturer lowers the generation and transmission of electromagnetic radiation by up to 50%. This technology also reduces system-wide power consumption by up to 80.23% (motherboard can save up to 33kw of electricity annually, reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere by 20.7kg). Below you can see the motherboards equipped with ASUS Protect 3.0 technology.

MSI Launches P55-GD85 Motherboard

MSI launched today P55-GD85 motherboard. This socket 1156 motherboard is based on Intel P55 chipset, has four DDR3 sockets supporting up to DDR3-2133 thru overclocking (16 GB max), two PCI Express x16 slots supporting SLI and CrossFire configurations, two PCI Express x1 slots, two PCI slots, one IDE port, two SATA-600 ports, seven SATA-300 ports, one eSATA port, two USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, one Firewire port, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and 7.1 audio.

P55-GD85 also supports several features like an automatic overclocking chip (OC Genie), a cooling solution based on an 8-mm heat-pipe (usually motherboards use 5-mm heat-pipes), a voltage regulator with a different design called “DrMOS” (click here to find out how it works), APS (Active Phase Switching) feature to save energy and on-board power and reset buttons. No word on pricing and availability.

New Biostar Overclocking Features

Motherboard Biostar has presented two new overclocking features for their products: Game Boost – GT60 and BIO-unlocKING. With Game Boost – GT60 it is possible to increase integrated graphics controller (GPU) clock on the newest 32-nm Intel processors (codename Clarkdale). This feature is available on BIOSTAR H55 motherboard series and, according to the manufacturer, allows the user to increase integrated GPU clock up to 60%. BIO-unlocKING enables ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration) function on selected AMD processors, allowing you to unlock extra CPU cores thru BIOS setup. Biostar didn’t inform which motherboards support this feature.

DFI Releases Atom N450-equipped mini-ITX Motherboard

DFI launched today LR100-N16M a mini-ITX motherboard equipped with Intel Atom N450 processor (1.67 GHz, 45-nm, FSB of 667 MHz and TDP of 5.5 W). This board features integrated video (GMA 3150 engine), two SO-DIMM DDR2-667 (2 GB max) sockets, three SATA-300 ports, one PCI slot, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four serial ports, 10 USB 2.0 ports (four on the rear panel and six available thru adapters), one CompactFlash socket and 5.1 audio. LR100-N16M motherboard is ideal for industrial control automation, point of sales and kiosk. No word on pricing and availability.

Zotac has launched a Mini-ITX motherboard based on GeForce 9300 chipset, called GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi (GF9300-I-E). This board supports Intel socket 775 processors, has two DDR2-800 slots, a PCI Express x16 slot, on-board video (GeForce 9300 engine working at 580 MHz), an eSATA port, three SATA-300 ports, Gigabi Ethernet port, 5.1 audio, integrated 802.11b/g wireless and VGA, DVI and HDMI outputs. Gigabyte Intros Socket AM3 Motherboards with USB 3.0/SATA-600

Gigabyte has just launched the industry's first socket AM3 motherboards featuring USB 3.0 and SATA-600 technologies. Three models were launched: GA-MA790FXT-UD5P (AMD 790FX chipset), GA-MA790XT-UD4P (AMD 790X chipset) and GA-MA770T-UD3 (AMD 770 chipset). These boards support the latest 45-nm Athlon II and Phenom II processors (HyperTransport 3.0 and built-in DDR3 memory controller), have a 10-phase voltage regulator (eight for CPU and two for memory) and support DDR3 up to 1,866 MHz (via overclocking). No word on pricing.

DFI Launches LANParty BI P43-T34 Motherboard

DFI has expanded its LANParty Blood Iron series with the launch of BI P43-T34 motherboard. This ATX motherboard supports Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad socket 775 processors, is based on Intel P43 + ICH10 chipset, has four DDR3-1333 sockets, a PCI Express x16 slot, six SATA-300 ports, one IDE port, 12 USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1 audio (Realtek ALC885 codec; 24-bit, 192 KHz sampling rate and SNR of 106 dB). ASUS has just launched its first motherboard compatible with SATA-600 standard.
