CES 2009: SanDisk is Selling Memory Cards With Pre-Loaded Music
Author: Gabriel Torres Date: January 12, 2009 - 2:39 PM PST
Category: Memory

Memory

SanDisk displayed during this CES a new concept for selling music: pre-loaded inside memory cards. Thus you can insert this kind of card directly on your cell phone with MP3 capability or MP3 player to listen to the songs. What is really cool about this concept – called slotMusic – is that the package of the memory cards is on the same size of CDs and carrying the original CD artwork. Memory cards with pre-loaded music are already being sold at BestBuy and Wal-Mart. The price is very similar to a CD, with the advantage of bringing home a 1 GB memory card.

CES 2009: Victorinox Launches a More Secure USB Swiss Army Knife

Memory

Victorinox, the manufacturer of the world-famous Swiss Army Knives, released during this CES a more secure USB drive. Called Presentation Pro, it features a fingerprint reader, so nobody can have access to the files inside the drive but you. Data is also encrypted (128-bit AES or up to 256-bit DES), so even if someone tries to bypass the fingerprint reader by trying to physically modifying the drive he won’t be able to have access to your data. It also features a Bluetooth remote control, allowing you to control your presentation using your pocket knife wirelessly – as long as your PC or laptop has a Bluetooth antenna, of course (Victorinox also sells a companion Bluetooth receiver). Another interesting feature is its integrated laser pointer, making it a complete presentation tool. The product comes with synchronization software to allow you to always have the latest version of your presentations. And finally Presentation Pro is a pocket knife, featuring a small pair of scissors, a small knife and a small sander. Presentation Pro Flight is a special version to allow you to carry it inside airplanes, removing the three tools we’ve just mentioned.

Presentation Pro is available in 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB versions and the only problem is the price tag: USD 169.95, USD 224.95 and USD 334.95, respectively (USD 164.95, USD 219.95 and USD 329.95 for the Flight version, respectively).

Mushkin Launches Triple-Channel DDR3 kits for Core i7 Processors
Author: Cássio Lima Date: November 18, 2008 - 5:43 PM PST
Category: Memory
More Info: http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/performance/
Memory

Following  A-Data, OCZ, Corsair, Patriot, G.Skill, Kingston, Gingle and takeMS, now it’s time to Mushkin to announce the launch of its triple-channel DDR3 kits for the new Intel Core i7 processors. Just to refresh your mind, the memory controller integrated on Core i7 processors provides three memory channels, i.e. it is capable of accessing three memory modules at the same time, in parallel, in order to improve performance – in theory triple-channel architecture provides a 50% increase of available bandwidth compared to a dual-channel architecture running at the same clock rate. So in order to achieve the best possible performance with a Core i7 CPU, you need to install three or six (if your motherboard supports six memory sockets, of course) memory modules.

Mushkin announced the launch of the following kits:

  • 998681: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) kits with 8-8-8-24 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 310.50.
  • 998680: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 8-8-8-24 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 177.10.
  • 998679: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) kits with 7-8-7-20 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 320.85.
  • 998678: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 7-8-7-20 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 194.35.
  • 998675: Works at 1,333 MHz, available in 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) kits with 6-6-6-18 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 435.85.
  • 998674: Works at 1,333 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 6-6-6-18 timings at 1.65 V. MSRP of USD 228.85.
  • 998659: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) kits with 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.5 V – 1.6 V. MSRP of USD 297.85.
  • 998658: Works at 1,600 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.5 V – 1.6 V. MSRP of USD 143.55.
  • 998677: Works at 1,333 MHz, available in 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) kits with 7-7-7-20 timings at 1.5 V – 1.6 V. MSRP of USD 297.85.
  • 998676: Works at 1,333 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 7-7-7-20 timings at 1.5 V – 1.6 V. MSRP of USD 172.50.

  • 998682: Works at 1,066 MHz, available in 3 GB (3 x 1 GB) kits with 6-6-6-18 timings at 1.5 V – 1.6 V. MSRP of USD 140.30.
