Corsair Launches Triple-Channel DDR3 kits for Core i7 Processors
Author: Cássio Lima Date: October 21, 2008 - 7:56 AM PST
Category: Memory
More Info: http://www.corsair.com/
Memory Following A-Data and OCZ, now it’s time to OCZ to announce the launch of its triple-channel DDR3 kits for the forthcoming Intel Core i7 processor. Just to refresh your mind, the memory controller integrated on Core i7 processors provides three memory channels, i.e. it is capable of accessing three memory modules at the same time, in parallel, in order to improve performance – in theory triple-channel architecture provides a 50% increase of available bandwidth compared to a dual-channel architecture running at the same clock rate. So in order to achieve the best possible performance with a Core i7 CPU, you need to install three or six (if your motherboard supports six memory sockets, of course) memory modules.

Part of Corsair XMS series, the TR3X3G1333C9 and TR3X6G1333C9 kits are available in 3 GB (USD 166.30) and 6 GB (USD 315.20) capacities and work at 1.333 MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings.

More Info: http://www.elpida.com/en/news/2008/10-06.html
Memory Elpida has announced that it was able to manufacture a new version of its 1 Gbit DDR2 SDRAM chip using 65-nm process. By doing so, it will be possible to get 20% more chips from a single 300 mm wafer (i.e. more chip will be produced in the same “oven”; a 60% increase in chips compared with wafers for 70-nm process products). Volume production of the new 65-nm chips is expected to begin before the end of 2008. Elpida also announced that it is developing a 50-nm process and plans to complete work in November. The company intends to begin volume production as early as late December this year. According to Elpida, the 50-nm process will improve productivity by up to 50% compared to its 65-nm process.

More Info: http://www.adata.com.tw/
Memory Intel hasn’t even officially launched its Core i7 processor (based on Nehalem microarchitecture) and A-Data has just announced triple-channel DDR3 kits for this processor. Bear in mind that the memory controller integrated on Core i7 processors provides three memory channels, i.e. it is capable of accessing three memory modules at the same time, in parallel, in order to improve performance – in theory triple-channel architecture provides a 50% increase of available bandwidth compared to a dual-channel architecture running at the same clock rate.
