AMD has officially launched the Radeon HD 6990, a video card equipped with two GPUs clocked at 830 MHz each, 4 GB of GDDR5 memory (2 GB per GPU) running at 5 GHz through two 256-bit interface, 1536 processors per GPU, and TDP of 375 W. The Radeon HD 6990 comes with one DVI and four mini-DisplayPort 1.2 connectors, and a secondary BIOS for overclocking to put the CPU to running up to 880 MHz. This video card reaches the market with a suggested price of USD 699. Sparkle today released a GeForce GTX 580 video card equipped with a custom cooler solution that according to the manufacturer can reduce the GPU temperature up to 5 °C compared to the reference cooler. This dual-slot cooler features four copper heatpipes, aluminum fins and two 80-mm fans. The Sparkle GeForce GTX 580 Thermal Guru (SXX5801536D5MH) uses the stock clocks (772 MHz for GPU and 4008 MHz for memory), has 1,536 MB of GDDR5 memory, and two DVI and one mini-HDMI video outputs. MSI has just expanded their Hawk series of video card with the launch of the R6870 Hawk, a factory-overclocked card based on the Radeon HD 6870 GPU. This video card works internally at 930 MHz (3.33% above the stock clock of 900 MHz), has 1 GB of GDDR5 memory accessed at 4,200 MHz (the same clock as the stock model) through a 256-bit interface, and DVI, HDMI and mini DisplayPort video outputs. It comes with the MSI’s Twin Frozr III dual-slot cooling solution (two 80 mm fans, five 8-mm heatpipes, nickel-plated copper base, and a new propeller blade technology) that reduces the temperature by 20°C and noise by 7 dB when compared to the reference design. The R6870 Hawk video card features a 10-phase voltage regulator circuit, APS (Active Phase Switching, which enables or disables phases according to the GPU load), military class components, voltage check points, and over current protection (OCP). NVIDIA has two GeForce GT 440 video cards: one of them, released back in November, is targeted to the OEM, while the other one, launched this week, is targeted to the retail market, especially for HTPCs (Home Theater PC). Watch out because these two video cards have different specs. Wouldn't it be better if NVIDIA used a different name for the new GeForce GT 440? The GeForce GT 440 for OEMs works internally at 594 MHz, has 1.5 GB or 3 GB of GDDR3 memory running at 1,600 MHz or 1,800 MHz DDR through a 192-bit interface, 144 processors running at 1,189 MHz, and a TDP of 56 W. This model has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. The GeForce GT 440 for the retail market works internally at 810 MHz, has 512 MB of GDDR5 memory or 1 GB of DDR3 memory running at 1,800 MHz DDR through a 128-bit interface, 96 processors running at 1,620 MHz, and a TDP of 65 W. According to PowerColor, this cooling solution works up to 20% cooler than the reference model. By buying this video card you also take home the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
