ATI ships Mobility Radeon X800 XT

Video ATI has launched its Mobility Radeon X800 XT bringing 16 pixel pipelines and six vertex engines to the mobile market. The card, aimed at desktop replacement notebooks, supports 256-bit interface and GDDR3 memory. It includes a variety of features, such as Powerplay power management tool and LCD-EE high resolution display support tech. The Mobility Radeon X800 XT will be available in systems offered by Alienware, Eurocom, HyperSonic, Rock, Velocity Micro and VoodooPC, among other makers.

XGI announces Volari 8300 PCI-E GPU

XGI Technology announced at Computex its entry-level PCI Express GPU. The Volari 8300 is a 0.13-micron part supporting DirectX 9.0, Shader Model 2 and TV encoding. It uses a technology called eXtreme Cache, which dynamically allocates system memory to the GPU, like Nvidia’s TurboCache and ATI’s HyperMemory. The Volari 8300 is also compatible with MXM type 1 mobile architecture. Mass production is set to begin in the second half.

HIS announces X850 CrossFire card

HIS lost no time and already announced two VGA cards featuring ATI’s multi-GPU technology. The Radeon X800 and X850 CrossFire Edition will be available starting in mid-July. CrossFire cards require compatible Radeon Xpress 200-based motherboards, but work with older models from the same family. It means that if the user buys a single X850 CrossFire it can be paired with any existing X850 PRO, X850 XT or X850 XT PE card.

FIC starts selling XGI video cards

FIC has started selling VGA cards featuring XGI graphics chips. The initial lineup consists of three DirectX 9.0c compatible cards with AGP 8x interface. The entry-level XGV364X, clocked at 200 MHz, has 64 MB of DDR memory at 400 MHz and 64-bit bus. The product, based on the Volari V3 chip, includes VGA, DVI and TV-Out connectors. The XGV8128X and XGV8256X (below) differs only in the ammount of memory (128 MB and 256 MB). Both are based on the Volari V8 chip, sporting eight pixel pipelines, and run at 280 MHz with memory at 500 MHz. The cards use 128-bit interface and support HDTV.

Sapphire uses liquid metal cooling

Video Sapphire broke new ground with the announcement of a Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition sporting a cooling system based on liquid metal developed by NanoCoolers. It works like a water cooling system, but instead uses magnetic pumps to circulate liquid gallium alloy. Sapphire states that the temperature achieved is 10 degrees Celsius below that offered by an Arctic Cooling solution. The Radeon X850 XT PE Blizzard is a 16 pixel pipelines card clocked at 540 MHz with 256 MB of GDDR3 memory at 1.18 GHz.

ATI releases Catalyst version 5.5

Video ATI released its fifth update to its Catalyst driver this year. Version 5.5 includes new drivers for Windows XP, Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows 2000 and Linux as well as improved Controle Center and Multimedia Center package. The bugfixes cover 3DMark05, a few games and a variety of settings and options. The download files have 25 MB (Control Panels) and 33 MB (Control Center).

Albatron announces AGP-to-PCI-E bridge card

Albatron has announced a bridge card called ATOP that will allow users to install existing AGP 8x cards in PCI Express mainboards. The company wants to profit from the fact that many users have high-end AGP 8x VGA cards and are, thus, unwilling to migrate to PCI-E boards. Installation is simple: the AGP card is connected to the ATOP adaptor and this is plugged into the mainboard’s PCI-E slot. Pricing and availability were not revealed.

GeCube adds Radeon X700 with 512 MB

Video While most makers are going with the Radeon X800 XL for 512 MB VGA cards, GeCube launched a X700 model sporting the same amount of memory (GDDR2). It also includes SilenCool heatpipe cooling technology to reduce noise. The PCI Express Radeon X700 is an eight pixel pipelines part clocked at 400 MHz with 128-bit memory bus. GeCube’s card, dubbed Professional, has VGA, DVI and HDTV-Out connectors.

Fatal1ty X800 XL with 512 MB of memory

ABIT today announced the release of its Fatal1ty X800XL video card sporting 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. The PCI Express ATI chip is clocked at 400 MHz and has 16 pixel pipelines. The card adds ABIT technologies such as an exclusive cooler with a 60 mm ball bearing low noise fan and vGuru overclocking tools. Additionally, the company introduced two new Fatal1ty motherboards based on Nvidia’s nForce 4 SLI chipsets for AMD and Intel chips, which allow simultaneous use of multiple video cards.

Chaintech has launched a GeForce 6200 card with AGP 8x interface and an exclusive heat transfer technology based on a large fan and a radiator. This gives the SA62AC OC a unique look and plenty of room for overclocking. The card is rated with core clock of 358 MHz and memory clock of 500 MHz. It is available with 128 MB or 256 MB of DDR memory and includes VGA, DVI-I and HDTV-Out connectors.
