NVIDIA has launched their first laptop GPU within their GeForce 500M family, the GeForce GT 540M. It works internally at 672 MHz, has 1.5 GB of GDDR5 or DDR3 memory running at 900 MHz through a 128-bit interface, 96 processors running at 1,344 MHz, and supports DirectX 11, CUDA, PhysX, 3D Vision, and Optimus technologies. The GeForce GT 540M is available immediately in China in products from Acer, and will be available worldwide next month.

MSI has launched the Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II, a video card based on the AMD Radeon HD 6870 GPU that comes with the MSI’s Twin Frozr II dual-slot cooling solution (two 80 mm fans and five heatpipes) that reduces the temperature by 19°C and noise by 12.8 dB when compared to the reference design. The new Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II comes in two versions: with stock clocks (900/4200 MHz for the GPU/memory) and factory-overclocked (920/4200 MHz for the GPU/memory). It features 1 GB of GDDR5 memory accessed through a 256-bit interface, two DVI, one HDMI, and two mini DisplayPort connectors, and military-class components (Hi-c caps, solid ferrite chokes, and solid caps). No word on pricing.

The Dutch video card manufacturer Club 3D has launched a factory-overclocked Radeon HD 6870 video card that works internally at 940 MHz (4.44% above the stock clock of 900 MHz) and comes with a custom dual-slot cooler. The card also has 1 GB of GDDR5 memory accessed at 4,400 MHz QDR (4.76% above the stock clock of 4,200 MHz QDR) through a 256-bit interface and features DVI, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort connectors. No word on pricing.

PowerColor has expanded its PCS+ series of video cards with the launch of a factory-overclocked Radeon HD 6870. The card, called PCS+ HD6870 (AX6870 1GBD5-PP2DHG), works internally at 940 MHz (4.44% above the stock clock of 900 MHz), has 1 GB GDDR5 accessed at 4.4 GHz QDR (4.72% above the stock clock of 4.2 GHz QDR) through a 256-bit interface, has two DVI, one HDMI and two mini DisplayPort connectors, and comes with a custom cooling solution equipped with a 92-mm fan and three copper heatpipes. NVIDIA has introduced a stripped-down version of their GeForce GTX 460, the GeForce GTX 460 SE. So, NVIDIA has now three version of the GeForce GTX 460: GeForce GTX 460 with 1 GB, GeForce GTX 460 with 768 MB, and the new GeForce GTX 460 SE with 1 GB.

The GeForce GTX 460 SE has less processors compared to the other two models (288 vs. 336) and lower clock speeds. It works internally at 650 MHz and accesses its memory at 3.4 GHz QDR through a 256-bit interface. As this video card is positioned below the GeForce GTX 460 with 768 MB, it should cost slightly lower than USD 200.

NVIDIA Launches GeForce GTX 580

NVIDIA has just launched the GeForce GTX 580, their latest DirectX 11 video card. This new card works internally at 772 MHz, has 1,536 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 4,008 MHz QDR through a 384-bit interface, 512 processors running at 1,544 MHz, DVI and mini HDMI connectors, and supports SLI, CUDA, PhysX, 3D Vision, and NVIDIA Surround technologies. The GeForce GTX 580 comes to the market with a suggested price tag of USD 499. According to NVIDIA, the GeForce GTX 580 is 30% faster than the original GeForce GTX 480.

Several manufacturers have launched models based on this new video card from NVIDIA, as you can see in the list below.

Guess what NVIDIA did as soon as AMD launched the new Radeon HD 6800 series? They cut the price of some their models. Now the recommended price tag for the GeForce GTX 460 1 GB is USD 199, while the GeForce GTX 470 is costing USD 259. It looks like the GeForce GTX 460 GTX 760 MB will remain around USD 179 price point.

The new Radeon HD 6870 comes with a suggested price of USD 239, while the HD 6850 is priced at USD 179.

AMD launched today the first two video cards from their newest Radeon HD 6800 series: Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850.

The Radeon HD 6870 works internally at 900 MHz, has 1 GB of GDDR5 running at 4,200 MHz QDR through a 256-bit interface, features 1120 processors, 56 texture units, two DVI, one HDMI, and two mini DisplayPort connectors. It comes with a recommended price tag of USD 239.

The Radeon HD 6850 works internally at 775 MHz, has 1 GB of GDDR5 running at 4,000 MHz QDR through a 256-bit interface, features 960 processors, 48 texture units, two DVI, one HDMI, and two mini DisplayPort connectors. It has a suggested price of USD 179.

Several manufacturers have launched models based on these new video cards from AMD, as you can see in the list below.
