Intel has extended its Core 2 Quad line-up with the launch of two models: Q8400 and Q8400S. Both use 45-nm technology, work internally at 2.66 GHz, work externally at 1,333 MHz, have 4 MB L2 cache and 95 W and 65 W TDP, respectively.

While celebrating the first anniversary of its Atom processor family, Intel has announced the launch of two new models: Z550 (2 GHz) and Z515 (1.2 GHz). These 45-nm processors work externally at 533 MHz, have 512 KB L2 cache and are targeted to MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices). The Z515 also features Burst Performance Technology, which enables it to automatically adjust its internal clock depending on computing demand. These new Atom processors will reach the market by the end of this month.

Intel has announced the launch of Atom Z5xx processor series specially designed to be used on embedded systems, like cell phones, car entertainment devices and industrial applications. AMD has just launched its first Phenom II processors with a built-in DDR3 memory controller. These 45-nm processors are compatible with both sockets AM2+ and AM3, support DDR2 memory up to 1,066 MHz and DDR3 memory up to 1,333 MHz and they are available in four-core and triple-core models. On the table below you can see the specs for these new Phenom II processors. Intel has increased its Core 2 Duo processor line-up with the addition of a new member: E8700. Based on Woldale core, this 45-nm dual-core processor works internally at 3.5 GHz, works externally at 1,333 MHz, has 6 MB L2 cache and TDP of 65 W. No word on pricing has been disclosed.

Paired with Dragon platform launch, AMD has unveiled its new Phenom processor generation, named Phenom II. The main difference between Phenom and Phenom II processors is basically manufacturing process. While Phenom II is built in 45-nm process, Phenom is built in 65-nm process. So Phenom II can achieve higher clocks, has a lower power consumption and has a lot more transistor than Phenom processors from previous generation (just to let you know, Phenom II has 758 million transistors, while Phenom has 450 million transistors). According to AMD Phenom II is 20% faster than Phenom processor from previous generation. Two Phenom II X4 (four cores) has been launched, as you can see on the table below. Intel has just launched its first dual-core Celeron processors targeted to the laptop market. Two models were launched: T1700 (internal clock of 1.83 GHz; USD 86 in 1000-unit tray quantities) and T1600 (internal clock of 1.66 GHz; USD 80 in 1000-unit tray quantities). These new processors are based on Core microarchitecture, have a shared 1 MB L2 cache, FSB of 667 MHz, 65-nm fabrication process and TDP of 35 W.
