Intel Launches CPU Replacement Plan for Overclockers
Author: Cássio Lima
Date: January 19, 2012 - 8:23 AM PST |
Category: CPU
More Info: http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/
Overclocking is a technique that enables a given hardware part to operate at a clock frequency above its default frequency, thus increasing its performance. This technique is not recommended by the manufacturers and voids the product’s warranty. Well, the good news for enthusiasts who like to overclock their processors is that Intel has launched a service called the “Performance Tuning Protection Plan.” This plan will provide certain out-of-warranty service offerings in the event of damage caused by overclocking or over-voltaging by the user. By purchasing this plan and meeting the plan’s criteria, the user can receive a one-time replacement processor if the user’s over-voltaging or overclocking causes the original processor to fail. This plan in no way expands, changes or extends the original three year standard warranty and is simply a plan the user may want to purchase for overclocking or over-voltaging. The Performance Tuning Protection Plan covers the following chips: - Core i5-2500K: USD 20 (Plan price)
- Core i7-2600K: USD 25
- Core i7-2700K: USD 25
- Core i7-3930K: USD 35
- Core i7-3960X: USD 35

Intel has finally introduced their third-generation Atom processors, the 32 nm chips codenamed Cedar Trail. The new Intel Atom processors offer a few significant advantages over current generation chips, including the aforementioned 32 nm process, a media engine that enables full 1080p high-definition playback of videos and Blu-Ray content, and an integrated memory controller supporting DDR3-800/1066 memory. These chips also support Intel Wireless Display, Intel Wireless Music, Rapid Start Technology and the Smart Connect Technology capabilities. Four processors were launched, two for netbooks (Atom N2600 and N2800) and two for entry-level all-in-one desktops (Atom D2500 and D2700). The N2600 and N2800 are clocked at 1.60 GHz and 1.86 GHz, respectively, while the D2500 and D2700 are clocked at 1.83 GHz and 2.13 GHz, respectively. All these chips feature two cores. Systems using the new Intel Atom “Cedar Trail” processor from Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Toshiba will debut in early 2012.
