VIA Announces Nano 3000 Processor Series

VIA has announced its Nano 3000 series of processors. These new processors are targeted to netbooks and “all-in-one” computers, have only one processing core, support SSE4 instructions, feature virtualization and security technologies and are compatible with NanoBGA2 pin-out (the same as other VIA processors like C7, C7-M and Eden, and processors from Nano 1000 and 2000 series). Nano 3000 processors will enter in mass production Q1 2010. On the table below you can see the models and their main specs.

Intel Intros Core i7 960

CPU Intel silently introduced the newest member of Core i7 family, Core i7 960. This socket 1366 model is made on 45-nm technology, works internally at 3.2 GHz, has four cores, supports HyperThreading technology, has 8 MB of L3 cache, 256 KB of L2 cache per core, built-in DDR3-800/1066 memory controller, QPI bus working at 4.8 GT/s, TDP of 130 W and is priced at USD 562 (in 1000 unit tray quantities).

AMD Launches Athlon II X4 Processors

CPU If it is not possible to compete with Intel in performance, AMD has figured out another way to face its rival: price. The company launched today two quad-core processors costing less than USD 130. Just to let you know, the cheapest quad-core processor from Intel (Core 2 Quad Q8200S – 2.33 GHz) is priced at USD 213 (1,000-unit). The new Athlon II X4 620 (2.6 GHz) and 630 (2.8 GHz) processors are manufactured using 45-nm process, have 2 MB of L2 cache, 4 GHz HyperTransport bus and a TDP of 95 W. Athlon II X4 620 has a suggested price of USD 99, while the Athlon II X4 630 is priced at USD 122.

Intel launched today its first processors based on “Lynnfield” core. All of them are manufactured using 45-nm process, have four cores, 8 MB of L3 cache (shared) and are based on the new socket 1156. AMD Announces Opteron 2419 EE

CPU AMD announced today the launch of Opteron 2419 EE. This new six-core processor works internally at 1.8 GHz, has 6 MB of L3 cache, allows SMP with two processors, supports AMD-V virtualization technology and has an ACP (Average Power Consumption; this is a new metric AMD is using to indicate the real power consumption of their processors targeted to the server market. It is important to not confuse ACP with TDP – Thermal Design Power –, which indicates the processor power thermal dissipation and is used to choose the appropriate kind of cooler) of 40 W. Opteron 2419 EE is priced at USD 989 (1,000-unit).

AMD Launches Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

CPU AMD has just introduced on the market Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, a 45-nm quad-core processor based on socket AM3 that works internally at 3.4 GHz, has 2 MB L2 cache, 6 MB L3 cache, a built-in DDR2/DDR3 memory controller, 4 GHz HyperTransport bus and TDP of 140 W. By being a “Black Edition” model this new processor has its clock multiplier unlocked and thus targeted to overclockers. Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition has a suggested price of USD 245.

AMD Intros Phenom II X4 945 with 95 W TDP

CPU AMD has stealthily introduced an updated version of the four-core Phenom II X4 945 processor. This new version differentiates from the original one only by having a lower TDP (95 W vs. 125 W). All others feature are identical (including pricing; USD 225), i.e., internal clock of 3 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache and 6 MB L3 cache.

AMD Unveils Athlon II X2 245 and 240

CPU AMD has just officially launched socket AM3-based Athlon II X2 245 (2.9 GHz) and 240 (2.8 GHz) processors. Manufactured on 45 nm technology, these new dual-core processors have 2 MB L2 cache, HyperTransport 3.0 (4 GT/s) bus, built-in DDR2/DDR3 memory controller and TDP of 65 W. They should reach the market soon costing around USD 65.
