Today, AMD announced its 2013 Elite A-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) for desktops, codenamed “Richland”.
The new AMD A-Series APUs combine AMD “Piledriver” CPU architecture with AMD Radeon HD 8000 Series graphics on the FM2 motherboard infrastructure. The ability to support existing A85X, A75, and A55 platforms as well as forward compatibility with FM2+ motherboards provides users the ability to buy now with the flexibility to upgrade as new platforms come to market. In addition, these APUs feature maximum clock speeds over 4 GHz for next generation compute workloads.
Utilizing the latest AMD Radeon HD 8000 Series graphics, the Elite A-Series combines the CPU and up to 384 Radeon parallel processing cores to offer up to 15 percent increased graphics performance over its predecessor, the AMD Second Generation APU (formerly codenamed Trinity). The Elite A-Series APU for desktops supports new AMD Radeon Memory Gamer Series at 2133 MHz. When paired with an A-Series APU, the DDR3-2133 MHz Radeon Memory Gamer Series will give up to a 13 percent performance increase over DDR3-1866 MHz memory.

AMD has unveiled a new family of low power server processors: the AMD Opteron X-Series optimized for scale-out server architectures. The AMD Opteron X-Series processors come in two variants. The AMD Opteron X2150, which consumes as little as 11 watts, is the first server APU system-on-a-chip integrating CPU and GPU engines with a high-speed bus on a single die. This enables customers to take advantage of leading-edge AMD Radeon HD 8000 graphics technology for multimedia-oriented server workloads. The AMD Opteron X1150, which consumes as little as 9 watts, is a CPU-only version optimized for general scale-out workloads.
The AMD Opteron X-Series processors are ideal for next-generation scale-out web and cloud applications ranging from big data analytics to image processing, multimedia content delivery, and hosting.

Today, AMD announced retail availability of its second generation AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) for desktop, codename “Trinity.” Trinity APUs use a brand new type of socket, dubbed FM2, which is incompatible[l1] with the FM1 socket used by Llano APUs. Trinity APUs feature up to four cores, an integrated AMD Radeon HD 7000 GPU, a dual-channel DDR3-1866 MHz integrated memory controller, and are built using 32 nm manufacturing processes. In the table below, we’ve listed the models available along with their main specs, including suggested retail price.
