Symantec Launches Norton 2009

Symantec has just announced the launch of Norton 2009 products, comprised of Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus. According to Symantec these software were developed to minimize impact on computer performance making their installation and usability “lighter”. Among Norton 2009 new features we can highlight Norton Insight technology, which removes the need of scanning common files, thus greatly reducing the number of files that have to be scanned regularly, and Pulse Updates, a feature that updates and install new patches on your system when it is idle. Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009 are already available for purchase in the USA priced at US$ 69,99 and US$ 39,99, respectively.

MSI Launches Titan 700

MSI launches its new Titan 700 full system product, based on the Mini-ITX form factor. The new computer comes with VIA CN700 + 8237R+ chipset, a slim DVD burner, a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, Gigabit LAN, I/O ports, USB 2.0, SATA, PS/2 and 5.1-channel audio. Titan 700 measures only 185 mm × 240mm × 70mm. It costs around US$ 460.

Microsoft Releases Windows XP SP3

Microsoft has announced that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) has released to manufacturing. MS has also announced that the release to the web will be available on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.

Microsoft Announces Windows Vista SP1

Microsoft announces the first Windows Vista Service Pack, which brings 23 security updates and 550 hot-fixes. A large number of individual files and components have been updated for SP1 and language files for the 36 basic languages are included in the standalone installer.

This SP1 is delivered to the Microsoft servers in a stand-alone package of 430 MB. However, most home and small business users will receive SP1 via Windows Update, which utilizes an efficient transfer mechanism to download only the actual bytes changed, resulting in a 65MB download.

ASUS Releases R300 GPS with MP3 and Video Player

ASUS releases the new GPS device, R300, which can play MP3s and videos, besides providing directions.  The device is only 0.54” thick and 4.9 ounces in weight – making it the thinnest in its category, says ASUS. The 3.5" display is touch-screen and has resolution of 20x240 (QVGA). The R300 utilizes high quality 2D/3D maps with street names and has a built-in auto light sensor that adjusts the LCD display backlight according to current light conditions (Night/day/tunnels).

It supports Micro SD memory cards up to 4GB. The R300 also features Samsung 2440 400 MHz Processor, Windows CE 5.0, built-in 64 MB RAM and 128MB Flash ROM.

AMD Intros 'Spider' Platform

AMD launched its new platform, code-named "Spider". The platform is made up of AMD Phenom quad-core processors, ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series graphics processors, AMD 7-Series chipsets with CrossFireX and AMD OverDrive software. The platform offers high-definition video and high-definition gaming. Pat Moorhead, vice president of marketing at AMD, reckon AMD 'bridge the gap between advanced home theatre PCs and the monster gaming rigs'. 'We're trying to bring those two worlds together', he said. Spider was designed to be energy efficient and to operate in a quieter environment.

The new Microsoft Vista arrives at the stores today, together with the Office 2007. Microsoft says Vista is 'the safest OS in the market'. Part of the security is guaranteed by a system that demands the confirmation and passwords when you download any new software.

The Windows Media Center makes the PC an entertainment center, incorporating advanced functions of video, audio and image. The Aero interface brings 3D effects to the Windows Vista, and create translucent windows that appear to float above the background screen, very similar to what is seen in Mac OS X Tiger and some Linux versions.
