Apple has launched the iPad Mini, a completely new iPad that is 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than the third-generation iPad. In fact, it is not only smaller, lighter and sleeker than the full-sized versions, but it is also less expensive, as it starts at USD 329.
The iPad Mini features a 7.9” display (1024x768 resolution), an A5 processor (dual-core ARM Cortex-A9, PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics engine, 1 GHz clock-speed, 32 nm process technology), 512 MB of memory, a 5 megapixels rear camera, a 1.2 megapixels front camera, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, accelerometer, gyroscope, and it comes with an Apple iOS 6 operating system. The iPad Mini is 7.2 mm thick and weighs just 0.68 pounds (312 g). Battery life is rated at 10 hours. The iPad Mini will be available for pre-order starting on Friday.

Today, Fujitsu announced that a new lineup of PCs and tablets built for Microsoft Windows 8 will be available in Japan starting October 26. With a total of 19 models in nine product series, the new lineup includes updates from the FMV Series of consumer PCs and the ARROWS Tab Wi-Fi series of water-resistant tablets, as well as models from the new Floral Kiss brand, which is targeted toward female customers.
As part of the new lineup, Fujitsu will be offering the water-resistant ARROWS Tab Wi-Fi QH55/J, a thin, water-resistant Windows 8 tablet, as well as FMV ESPRIMO FH 98/JD, which is equipped with an eye tracking sensor—the latest proprietary Human Centric Technology from Fujitsu—that allows users to operate the computer screen with their eye movements. In addition, all of the models will be delivered together with Fujitsu’s consumer cloud service, My Cloud, which enables users to take full advantage of the computing power of their PCs and tablet devices.

Today, Apple introduced its newest smartphone, the long awaited iPhone 5. According to the company, the iPhone 5 is the thinnest smartphone in the world, being 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 5 features an anodized aluminum body, a 4” retina display (1136x640), an Apple-designed A6 processor, and support for GPRS, EDGE, EV-DO, HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA, GPS, LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi technologies.
The new iPhone 5 also brought an 8-megapixel camera that is 25 percent smaller than the iPhone 4S’s camera. This camera features a sapphire crystal lens cover that is thinner and more durable than standard glass with the ability to provide crystal clear images. The new panorama feature lets you capture jaw-dropping panoramic images of up to 28 megapixels by simply moving the camera across a scene in one smooth motion. New video features include improved stabilization, video face detection for up to 10 faces, and the ability to take still photos as you record. A front camera can also be used for self-portraits and recording 720p HD video. The new iPhone also has three microphones (front, bottom and back) that will be used for voice recognition and noise cancelation.
As rumored earlier, the new iPhone has a new connector, called Lightning. According to Apple, this new connector is more durable than the previous one.
The new iPhone 5 runs Apple’s iOS 6 operating system and will be available in the U.S. in either white and silver or black and slate, with a suggested retail price of USD 199 for the 16 GB model, USD 299 for the 32 GB model, and USD 399 for the 64 GB model.
The iPhone 5 will be available from the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores, and through AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and select Apple authorized resellers. The iPhone 5 will be available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK on Friday, September 21. Customers can pre-order their iPhone 5 beginning Friday, September 14.

Today, Lenovo unveiled its first tablet specifically designed for Windows 8, the ThinkPad Tablet 2. The product features a 10.1” (1366x768) display, an Intel Atom processor, a 10-hour battery, optional 3G/4G connectivity, fingerprint reader, micro-HDMI output and a pair of 8 megapixels rear and 2 megapixels front cameras. Additionally, it will be sold along with an optional keyboard, as well as a dock with three USB ports, one HDMI port and one Ethernet port.
The tablet supports multiple input methods: multi-finger touch and an optional digitizer and pen, especially good for note taking, capturing signatures and completing forms.
The ThinkPad Tablet 2 will be available when Windows 8 launches on October 26.
Unfortunately, the price has not been announced.

Panasonic has introduced the Toughpad family of professional-grade tablets, which includes the 10.1-inch Toughpad A1 and the 7-inch Toughpad B1 models. Both devices were designed to withstand extreme conditions and will be launched next year. They run on the Android operating system. The Toughpad A1 features a 1.2 GHz dual-core Marvell processor, 16 GB of storage space, 1 GB of LP-DDR2 memory, a 10.1-inch XGA touchscreen display (1024x768), a microSD card slot, a micro USB port, a micro HDMI port, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, 4G (LTE or WiMAX), and a battery that provides up to 10 hours of operation. The Toughpad A1 will start at USD 1,299. Panasonic didn’t disclose much information about the Toughpad B1 model.  click to enlarge
