Dell Offers SSD on Latitude Notebooks

Mobile Dell announced two notebooks with 1.8" SSD. The Latitude D420 ultra-mobile and Latitude D620 ATG semi-rugged notebooks come with SanDisk SSD UATA 5000 drives.

The drive offers read speeds of 62MB/sec and had an access speed of 0.12 milliseconds. The drive also boosts overall system performance by 23 percent and reduced boot times by 34 percent on the D420 and D620. Consumers can buy UATA 5000 drive for USD 549, but it costs USD 450 as an option on the D420 and USD 300 as an option on the D620 ATG.

Acer recalls Sony Notebooks's Batteries

Mobile Acer has announced a recall of ithium-ion battery packs made by Sony. There have been 16 reports of notebook batteries overheating. The affected units include several different models of Acer TravelMate and Acer Aspire laptops sold in the United States and Canada between May 2004 and November 2006.

Samsung Intros Q30 Notebook, with Hybrid HD

In Japan, Samsung puts in the market the first notebook with a built-in hybrid HD. The  Q30 model features the MH80 HD series, which has capacity of 80 GB and 256 MB flash, which guarantees faster response and longer battery life. Q30 notebook also has 1.83 MHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 processor, 15.4" WXGA screen and GeForce 7400 mobile com 256 MB de RAM.

The hybrid HD promisses to fill the gap between traditional HDs and the still cost-prohibitive SSDs. Flash solid-state drives (SSD) promisses to bring PCs faster, more durable and more silent.

The card is available now at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of USD119.99.

Motorola announces the limited edition of the MOTORAZRmaxx V6, under the Ferrari brand. The Ferrari Mobile Challenge Phone uses technology HSDPA and features the badge Ferrari on the external glass and the Ferrari name on the back. The switching on and off sound reproduces a roar of the Ferrari F1 engine.

It is a dual Mode UMTS/GSM (900/1800/1900/850) and comes with a 2-megapixel camera and video recording. It also features a micro SD slot and Bluetooth connectivity. Talk time is up to 197 minutes and standby time up to 330 hours.

VIA Technologies today announced the launch of the VN896 digital media mobile IGP chipset, for notebooks and the new breed of ultra mobile devices. The new chipset features the VIA Chrome9 HC integrated graphics processor (IGP), coming with DirectX 9.0 3D accelerator and a 2D accelerator.

It comes with the latest generation Chromotion video display engine, featuring advanced video processing, including acceleration for MPEG-2 decoding. It also features LCD panel, CRT and TV-out support, two outputs to display at the same time, with different information at different resolutions, pixel depths and refresh rates.

Other features: FSB of 800/667/533/400 MHz, support to VIA C7-M mobile processors and Intel Pentium M/Core, Solo/Core, Duo/Core2 and Duo super processors, high bandwidth PCI Express ports, one 16-lane PCI Express and one single lane port. Flexible memory options include support for DDR2 667/533/400 or DDR 400/333 with a maximum of 4GB.

ASUS unveils the A8Jr notebook series, based on Intel's Core2 Duo processor. It will be the world's first notebook series to utilize ATI's Mobility Radeon X2300 GPU. The A8Jr has 14.1" Widescreen LCD display, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth, 5 USB Ports, TV-Out, DVI Port, Card Reader, Express Card, IEEE1394, VGA Out, RJ11, RJ45. It also features microphone, a high-resolution webcam and a placed speakers at the front end of the notebook.It weights 5.27 pounds and should be available within the next two weeks, but pricing is not yet available.

Mobile Spectec has launched a new microSD memory card for mobile market. It offers WiFi connectivity and claims to be the world first microSD WiFi 11g card.  The new Sdio card runs at Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone and has a max data transfer speed of 54 Mbps at 802.11g and 11Mbps at 802.11b.It is compatible with Skype Software.
