Scythe introduced today Stronger PSU series comprised with 500 W, 600 W and 700 W models featuring modular and non-modular cabling system. These new Stronger units have 80 Plus Standard certification, are compatible with ATX12V 2.3 and EPS12V standards, feature a 140-mm fan and have protections against over voltage (OVP), under voltage (UVP), over current (OCP), over power (OPP), over temperature (OTP) and short-circuit (SCP). Below you can see the models launched and their prices.

  • Stronger 500 W with modular cabling system (SPSN-050P): USD 75.
  • Stronger 600 W with modular cabling system (SPSN-060P): USD 97.
  • Stronger 700 W with modular cabling system (SPSN-070P): USD 108.
  • Stronger 500 W (SPSN-050): USD 65.
  • Stronger 600 W (SPSN-060): USD 75.
  • Stronger 700 W (SPSN-070): USD 98.

Thermaltake Intros New Litepower PSUs

Thermaltake has expanded its Litepower series of power supply with the launch of the following models: 350 W (W0363 and W0367), 450 W (W0361 and W0362) and 550 W (W0369). These new units are compatible with ATX12V 2.2 standard, feature two +12 V rails, active PFC (except on 350 W W0363 and 450 W W0362 models), a 120-mm fan (80-mm on 350 W models) and protections against over voltage, over power and short-circuit. The suggested prices for these units are:
  • W0363 (350 W): USD 29.99.
  • W0367 (350 W, with active PFC): USD 32.99.
  • W0361 (450 W, with active PFC): USD 49.99.
  • W0362 (450 W): USD 47.99.
  • W0369 (550 W, with active PFC): Information not available.

New Toughpower XT PSUs from Thermaltake

Thermaltake has expanded their Toughpower XT series of power supplies with the launch of 575 W (USD 109), 675 W (USD 135), 775 W (USD 145) and 875 W (USD 159) models. These new units are compliant with ATX12V 2.3 and EPS12V 2.91 standards, have 80 Plus Bronze certification (efficiency up to 89%), use a DC-DC converter, a single +12 V rail design, have active PFC circuit, a set of three LEDs that gives you basic status about the power supply working conditions, and a switch where you can configure the power supply fan (140 mm; 1,900 rpm) to keep spinning for 15 or 30 seconds after you turn off your PC. These new Toughpower XT units should reach the market soon.

Silvertone has expanded their Strider Essential power supply line-up with the launch of 400 W (ST40F-ES) and 500 W (ST50F-ES) models. Both are ATX12V 2.3-compliant, have 80 Plus Standard certification, active PFC circuit, single +12V rail design and a 120 mm fan. 400 W model is priced at USD 49.99, while 500 W model is priced at USD 59.99.

Mushkin Lauches Volta and Joule PSU Series

Mushkin has just officially launched Volta and Joule power supply series. Volta series includes models of 500 W and 600 W (that we’ve already reviewed) and Joule series includes more powerful models of 1,000 W and 1,200 W. These units comes with modular cabling system, active PFC and a 120-mm fan that glows in either blue, red or green (a switch allows the users to select the desired color). Units from Volta series have a project with only one +12V rail, while models from Joule series have a design with six +12V rails. 500 W and 600 W from Volta series are priced at USD 80 and USD 90, respectively, while 1,000 W and 1,200 W from Joule series are priced at USD 225 and USD 250, respectively.

Enermax Updates Four PSU Series

Enermax has updated their MODU82+, PRO82+, Liberty ECO and ECO80+ series of power supplies with the addition of a metallic clip that prevents the AC cable from getting out of its socket, a feature that keeps the PSU’s fan running for 30 to 60 seconds after the PC was shut down (to prolong the lifetime of the unit’s internal components) and a free 120-mm fan. To make easy distinction Enermax has included a number two (in roman algarism) in the end of their names.

Nexus Launches 1,100 W and 700 W PSUs

Nexus Technology has expanded its power supply line-up with the launch of two models: RX-1.1K GOLD (1,100 W) and RX-7000 (700 W). Both have modular cabling system, active PFC circuit, a 135-mm fan, single-rail design and protections against overvoltage and short-circuit. Speaking of efficiency, RX-1.1K GOLD model has 80 Plus Gold certification, presenting a typical efficiency of 90.8% and an average efficiency of 89.2%, while RX-7000 model has 80 Plus Bronze certification, which means it has efficiency above 82%. Below you can see the main power specs for these new models. No word on pricing and availability.

Enermax Launches Two PSU Series

Enermax has just released two PSU series: PRO87+ and MODU87+. The only difference between them is that units from MODU87+ series feature a modular cabling system. Units from these new series are available in 500 W, 600 W, 700 W and 800 W models, have a 139-mm fan and make use of a DHT (Dynamic Hybrid Transformer) which enable them to have a efficiency of up to 92%. The PRO87+ and MODU87+ power supplies will reach the market by the end of this month. No word on pricing.

New 80 Plus Platinum Certification

Ecos Consulting, the company behind 80 Plus certification, has just released a new certification category, Platinum. Now five certifications are available: Standard, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Platinum. At this moment the 80 Plus Platinum is targeted only to redundant power supplies for datacenters, which can only work at 230 V. This new certification requires a minimum power factor (PF) of 0.95 (0.90 for the others certifications). The differences between the five 80 Plus certification are summarized on the table below.

Thermaltake has updated their power supplies from TR2 RX series. Now 450 W and 550 W models feature a 140 mm. Also these units are ATX12V V2.3-compliant, have Japanese caps, efficiency over 80%, two +12 V rails and over current, over voltage, over power and short-circuit protections. The 450W and 550W TR2 RX units are expected to cost USD 59.99 and USD 69.99, respectively.
