Diamond Multimedia is reentering the sound card market with two products. The Xtreme Sound incorporates 24-bit Dolby 7.1 surround sound, 10-band equalizer, preset audio environments, headphone, speeker and a multi-track recording and editing studio (Audacity). The Xtreme Sound DDL adds Double Digital Live, which converts audio signals into a Dolby Digital bitstream, for transport and playback through a home theater system. Suggested retail prices are USD 30 and USD 60.

Creative has announced a new 2.1 speaker system in the I-Trigue family. The L3800 promises to transform any Zen player into a high-fidelity sound system. A wireless remote is used to control both the speakers and the media device. Delivering 48 W of RMS, the new I-Trigue uses Creative’s NeoTitanium micro driver technology and Lateral Firing Transducers (LFT), driven separately by two amplifiers present in each satellite. Suggested retail price is USD 150.

Numark launches iPod mixing console

Numark has launched a two-channel mixer that enables DJs and iPod enthusiasts to integrate portable music libraries with other music and sound reinforcement systems. The iDJ has two docking stations compatible with all models of the Apple player. Features include 3-band EQ with gain control on both channels, dedicated microphone input with tone and level control, phono/line inputs and turntable spindle receptacle.

Dolby Labs announces TrueHD audio

Dolby Laboratories has announced a lossless audio technology called TrueHD, designed to complement high-definition optical disc formats, such as HD DVD and Blu-ray, and promising performance correspondent to the highest-resolution studio masters currently available. The standard incorporates higher bit rates, additional channels, enhanced stereo mix support and metadata functionalities, including dynamic range control and dialogue normalization.

Logitech speakers for mobile music

Logitech released two new speaker systems designed for portable music players. The mm50, customized for Apple’s iPod, offers exclusive features, a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery said to last 10 hours per charge and a remote control. Max-X high-excursion drivers and three inch pressure drivers promise fully balanced audio, maximum bass response and minimal distortion. It will be available in September with a suggested retail price of USD 150. The Logitech mm28, in its turn, can be used with any MP3 or CD player equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack. The speakers use NXT flat-panel technology and are said to run for 45 hours on a single set of AA batteries. Suggested price is USD 80.

Creative will start selling later this month a new series of Sound Blaster sound cards called X-Fi. Based on the X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor, which is capable of 10,000+ MIPS, the products achieve up to 116 dB SNR (in the Elite Pro model). The X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS, named after professional gamer Johnathan ”Fatal1ty“ Wendel, provides 109 dB quality and includes 64 MB of on-board X-RAM for high performance gaming. All cards utilize Sound Blaster’s 24-bit Crystalizer and CMSS-3D technologies. Prices range from USD 200 (XtremeMusic) to USD 400 (Elite Pro).

Creative has announced the adoption of its Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit processor by Gigabyte, MSI and Shuttle. The eight-channel processor delivers 96 kHz sound and includes EAX technology. Two MSI boards – K8N Diamond e P4N Diamond – already feature the chip. Gigabyte will offer it on the upcoming GA-G1915P. The Live! 24-Bit processor is also available in Shuttle’s SD31P barebone and will appear in at least three future models.

Creative has announced the introduction of a new audio standard called Xtreme Fidelity. It is based on the upcoming X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor, which brings more than 51 million transistors and is capable of 10,000+ MIPS. According to the company, the X-Fi is 24 times more powerful than its predecessor. The multiple engine design dynamically direct resources through a modular architecture. New applications will be showcased this week, during the E3 Expo, in Los Angeles.

Creative announced the limited edition Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro sound card featuring 113 dB SNR Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) for 24-bit HD audio. It includes an external I/O hub with analog stereo connectors for six-channel input, optical and coaxial digital I/O, full-sized MIDI I/O, microphone with gain control, headphone and volume control and two FireWire ports. The new Creative Smart Recorder software supports automatic scheduling of recordings from any source and cuts the single audio stream into individual tracks. The pack includes the games ”Thief: Deadly Shadows“ and ”Hitman: Contracts“. Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro will be available this month priced at US$ 299.
