Maingear Unveils World's Most Powerful Gaming Notebook

Maingear has launched eX-L 18, which they are bragging to be the world's most Powerful gaming notebook. This portable is equipped with an Intel CPU and you can choose a Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.4 GHz dual-core), a Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8 GHz quad-core) or Core 2 Extreme X9300 (2.53 GHz quad-core). It can be configured with up to 8 GB DDR3 and has two GeForce GTX 280M video card in SLI mode (you can configure it with only one GeForce GTX 280M video card). As for storage, you can choose up to three 7,200 rpm hard disk (usually laptops come with 5,400 rpm models, which are slower but consume less power) with up to 500 GB capacity or 80 GB SSD and you can even order your laptop with a RAID0 system to increase performance. It comes with an 18.4” display (resolution of 1920x1200), an illuminated keyboard, Bluetooth 2.1, eSATA port, Firewire port, HDMI output, 7.1 audio, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking, TV out, 12-cell battery, card reader (SD/MS/MSPRO/RS-MMC/MMC) and a built-in 3 Mpixels webcam. The most basic model costs USD 2,999, while the most high-end one costs USD 5,982.62.

Enermax Debuts Staray Case

Enermax has just unveiled Staray, a mid-tower case equipped with the newest Apollish fans. It is made of zinc-coated steel (a.k.a. “SECC”), has four 5 ¼” external bays, one 3 ½” external bay, six 3 ½” internal bays, seven slots for expansion cards, tool-less mechanisms for hard drive installation and watercooling support. This case is available in two models: ECA3071-BR-AP (three 120-mm Apollish fans with red LED, one located on the front panel and two located on the side panel; place for one optional 120/90/80-mm fan on the rear panel; MSRP of USD 70) and ECA3070-BL (one 120-mm Apollish fan with blue LED located on the front panel; place for one optional 120/90/80-mm fan on the rear panel and for two optional 140/120-mm fans on the side panel; MRSP of USD 55). Staray case also comes with two USB ports and a speed controller for the front panel fan.

AMD Intros Phenom II X4 945 with 95 W TDP

CPU AMD has stealthily introduced an updated version of the four-core Phenom II X4 945 processor. This new version differentiates from the original one only by having a lower TDP (95 W vs. 125 W). All others feature are identical (including pricing; USD 225), i.e., internal clock of 3 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache and 6 MB L3 cache.

New Apollish Fans from Enermax

Enermax has just introduced Apollish case fan series. Available in 80-mm and 120-mm versions and in four color (silver, red, blue and green), Apollish fans shine up to four times brighter than ordinary LED fans, have a frame with reflexive finish, a magnetic bearing (which improves lifespan and produces a low noise level), detachable fan blades for easy cleaning and an integrated thermal sensor to control fan speed according to the temperature level. Below you can see the mains specs for Enermax Apollish fans:

  • 80 mm model: Fan speed between 600 and 2.100 rpm, noise level of 15 dBA (minimum), air flow between 12.48 and 33.04 CFM, price USD 15.
  • 120 mm model: Fan speed between 700 and 1.700 rpm, noise level of 15 dBA (minimum), air flow between 28.98 and 71.76 CFM, price USD 20.

AMD Unveils Athlon II X2 245 and 240

CPU AMD has just officially launched socket AM3-based Athlon II X2 245 (2.9 GHz) and 240 (2.8 GHz) processors. Manufactured on 45 nm technology, these new dual-core processors have 2 MB L2 cache, HyperTransport 3.0 (4 GT/s) bus, built-in DDR2/DDR3 memory controller and TDP of 65 W. They should reach the market soon costing around USD 65.

NZXT Announces M59 Gaming Case

NZXT has just announced its newest case targeted to gamers, M59. Featuring four 5 ¼” external bays and seven 3 ½” internal bays, this new NZXT mid-tower case has an aggressive looks, being totally painted in black (even inside) and having an acrylic side panel. It is made of steel, its front panel is meshed to improve airflow, the motherboard tray has holes to route cables (keeping the interior of the case organized, thus improving airflow), supports watercooling system installation and has seven slots for expansion cards (slot covers are meshed to improve airflow). As for cooling, M59 has a 120-mm frontal fan and one 120-mm side fan (with a LED) and places for two 140- or 120-mm optional fans on the top panel and for one 120-mm optional fan on the rear panel. This case has two USB ports and one eSATA port. M59 will reach the market next month costing USD 59.99.

GeIL Announces DDR3 Green Memory Series

Memory GeIL has increased its “Green” product line-up with the launch of four DDR3 memory kits. Available in 2 GB (1 GB x 2) and 4 GB (2 GB x 2) kits, theses new kits are comprised with DDR3 modules powered at 1.3 V, instead of 1.5 V as defined by JEDEC specification. Also, these kits come inside a recycled paper packaging.

GeIL DDR3 Green modules work at 1,066 MHz (8-8-8-20 timings) and 1,333 MHz (9-9-9-9-24 timings). No word on pricing and availability.

EVGA Unveils Dual-display Monitor

EVGA has just launched InterView 1700, a monitor equipped with two 17” LCD displays. The two displays are suspended on a central stand that allows them to be individually turned 180º on the vertical and 90º on the horizontal. Each display has native resolution of 1440 x 900, 8 ms response time and a 500:1 static contrast ratio. InterView 1700 weights 16.53 lbs (7.5 kg), has a built-in 1.3 Mpixel webcam located on the central stand, three USB ports and a dual-link DVI. EVGA is selling this monitor for USD 650.

Nexus Launches Edge Case

Nexus has launched Edge, a full-tower case equipped with eight 5 ¼” external bays, one 3 ½” internal bay, nine 3 ½” internal bays, seven slots for expansion cards and watercooling support. It has an aluminum front door, features screwless mechanisms for hard drive installation and acoustic foams on the side panels to reduce noise. As for cooling, Edge comes with three 140-mm fans (one on the top panel, one on the rear panel and another in front of the hard disk cage) and places for installation of two optional fans. This case has two USB and one eSATA ports. No word on pricing and availability.

AMD has increased its Opteron processor line-up (codename “Instanbul”) with the launch of five new models. All of them are 45-nm units, have six cores, 6 MB L3 cache, 3 MB L2 cache (512 KB per core), an integrated DDR2 memory controller, HyperTransport 3.0 bus, are compatible with socket F platform and allow SMP with up to 8 processors. Below you can see the new “Istanbul” Opteron models launched.
