NZXT Unveils Lexa S Mid-tower Case

NZXT has announced the launch of its newest mid-tower case targeted to gamers, Lexa S. Built-up in steel and all-black painted (even internally), Lexa S has four 5 ¼” external bays, seven 3 ½” internal bays, seven slots for expansion cards, acrylic side panel and water-cooling support. Lexa S comes with a 120-mm front fan (23 dB/42 CFM), a 120-mm (1,200 rpm/23 dB/42 CFM) side fan that glow in blue when turned on, a 140-mm top fan (support for an optional 140/120 mm fan) and a 120-mm rear fan (23 dB/42 CFM). Lexa S will reach the market this month with a suggested price of USD 70.

Toshiba Launches 640 GB Laptop Hard Drive

Storage Toshiba has launched a new hard disk drive series targeted to notebooks (2.5”) with 160 GB, 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB and 640 GB models. All of them work at 5,400 rpm, have SATA-300 interface and a 8 MB buffer. No word on pricing and availability.

Western Digital Launches New 2 TB Hard Disks

Storage Western Digital has just launched two 2 TB hard disks targeted to desktop and servers/NAS (Network Attached Storage): Caviar Black and RE4. Both hard disks make use of four 500 GB platters, have SATA-300 interface, 64 MB of buffer, work at 7,200 rpm, have two processors to increase performance and a dual-actuator system to improve accuracy over the data tracks. These new disks have 5-year warranty and 2 TB Caviar Black model is priced at USD 299, while 2 TB RE4 model is currently being qualified by OEMs.

Just to remember that until now Western Digital had only 2 TB spinning at 5,400 within their “Green” series.

Titan Releases Notebook Cooler

Titan has rolled out G12T (TTC-GT2TZ), a cooler compatible with laptops featuring displays from 12” to 17”. This aluminum cooler has two 70-mm fans (1,500 rpm), two USB ports, on/off button, is powered via a USB port (thus no batteries or power adapters are necessary) and measures 12.79” x 5.74” x 1.41” or 32,5 cm x 14,6 cm x 36 mm (W x D x H). No word on pricing.

New “Classified” Products from EVGA

EVGA has increased its Classified line-up with the launch of a GeForce GTX 285 video card and the world’s first motherboard to support 4-way SLI. EVGA GeForce GTX 285 Classified (01G-P3-1190-AR) video card uses GTX 285 reference clock (i.e. internal clock of 648 MHz, memory clock of 2,484 MHz DDR and shader clock of 1,476 MHz), has 1 GB DDR3 accessed thru a 512-bit interface, 8-phase voltage regulator circuit, dedicated voltage read points and two DVI connectors. EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI (170-BL-E762-A1) motherboard is based on Intel X58 Express chipset (ICH10R northbridge), supports socket 1,366 processors, has six DDR3-1600 sockets (max. 24 GB), seven PCI Express slots (supporting 2-way, 3-way, 4-way SLI ou CrossFireX), nine SATA-300 ports (supporting 0, RAID1, RAID 0+1, RAID5, JBOD), 8-channels audio, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, 10-phase voltage regulator circuit and 100% solid caps. If you want to buy this motherboard make sure your case has more than nine slots for expansion cards and be compatible with XL-ATX (13.5" x 10.3") motherboards. The suggested price for GeForce GTX 285 Classified video card is USD 379.99 and for X58 Classified 4-Way SLI motherboard is USD 449.99.

AMD Announces Opteron 2419 EE

CPU AMD announced today the launch of Opteron 2419 EE. This new six-core processor works internally at 1.8 GHz, has 6 MB of L3 cache, allows SMP with two processors, supports AMD-V virtualization technology and has an ACP (Average Power Consumption; this is a new metric AMD is using to indicate the real power consumption of their processors targeted to the server market. It is important to not confuse ACP with TDP – Thermal Design Power –, which indicates the processor power thermal dissipation and is used to choose the appropriate kind of cooler) of 40 W. Opteron 2419 EE is priced at USD 989 (1,000-unit).

ASUS Announces Motherboard for Audiophiles

ASUS has just announced a motherboard series targeted to audiophiles. Absolute Pitch, as it is called, features three audio technologies: DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC, ENVY HD (10-channel) and Blu-Ray audio decoding (192 kHz sampling rate and 24-bit resolution). Two models were launched within this series: M4A785G HTPC/RC and M4A785G HTPC. Both models support AM3/AM2+/AM2 processors, feature a AMD 785G/SB710 chipset, have four DDR2-1200 (max. 16 GB) sockets, integrated video (Radeon HD 4200), one PCI Express x16 slot, two PCI Express x1 slots, one PCI slot, five SATA ports, one eSATA port, Gigabit Ethernet, optical SPDIF output and RCA gold-plated audio connectors. M4A785G HTPC/RC model is equipped with a remote control. No word on pricing and availability.

Lian Li Launches PC-B25F Mid-tower Case

Lian Li recently announced PC-B25F mid-tower case. Featuring three 5 ¼” external bays (one of them can be converted into a 3 ½” bay), six 3 ½” internal bays and eight slots for expansion cards, this new case from Lian Lin is made entirely in aluminum and measures 8.26” x 19.48” x 19.29” or 21 cm x 49,5 cm x 49 cm (W x H x D). As for cooling, PC-B25F comes with three 120-mm fans (two on the front panel and one on the rear panel; 1,200 rpm) and two 140-mm fans on the top panel (1,000 rpm). Its side, top and front panels are removable and the slot covers are meshed in order to improve air flow. This case has anti-vibration mechanisms for hard drives and tool-less mechanisms for hard drives and daughter cards installation. PC-B25F will reach the market in the middle of September a suggested price of USD 190.

Corsair has increased its Extreme Series family of 2.5” SSD drives (which already has 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 models) with the launch of X256 model, as its own name suggests has 256 GB capacity. X256 has an Indilinx Barefoot controller, SATA-300 interface, 64 MB of cache and read and write speeds of 240 MB/s and 170 MB/s, respectively. No word on pricing and availability.
