Biostar Launches the TPower X79 Motherboard

Biostar has introduced their first socket 2011 motherboard based on the Intel X79 chipset, the TPower X79. This board features four DDR3-2400 memory sockets, three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (x16, x16, x8), two PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots, one PCI slot, four SATA-600 ports, three SATA-300 ports, one eSATA-300 port, eight-channel audio (Realtek ALC898), Gigabit Ethernet (Realtek RTL8111E), and six USB 3.0 ports.

The board supports several of Biostar’s proprietary technologies, including the Rapid Switch for quick restart, the Rapid Debug for hardware debugging with the help of an LED light, the BIOS Flasher and the BIOS Relife for updating or recovering BIOS from a USB drive, and the BIO-Remote 2 for remote control of home media system components from Android and Apple mobile devices. Overclockers will be pleased with the T-overclocker utilities for Windows, which provide fine system tuning for experienced users.

Biostar’s board should become available next month. Information on pricing was not provided.

Intel Announces Atom ”Cedar Trail“ CPUs

Intel has finally introduced their third-generation Atom processors, the 32 nm chips codenamed Cedar Trail.

The new Intel Atom processors offer a few significant advantages over current generation chips, including the aforementioned 32 nm process, a media engine that enables full 1080p high-definition playback of videos and Blu-Ray content, and an integrated memory controller supporting DDR3-800/1066 memory. These chips also support Intel Wireless Display, Intel Wireless Music, Rapid Start Technology and the Smart Connect Technology capabilities.

Four processors were launched, two for netbooks (Atom N2600 and N2800) and two for entry-level all-in-one desktops (Atom D2500 and D2700). The N2600 and N2800 are clocked at 1.60 GHz and 1.86 GHz, respectively, while the D2500 and D2700 are clocked at 1.83 GHz and 2.13 GHz, respectively. All these chips feature two cores.

Systems using the new Intel Atom “Cedar Trail” processor from Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Toshiba will debut in early 2012.

MSI Announces Voice Genie Technology

MSI's Voice Genie is a voice control technology that allows users to interact with the computer without the need for a keyboard or mouse. Aside from turning on and off the system, users can enable and disable OC Genie, open a web browser, wake up the system, and set the system to sleep mode all via voice command. Voice Genie comes equipped with two sets of voice recognition and supports up to eight customized voice commands

Super Talent has announced the Storage POD Mini, an external SSD drive that features a USB 3.0 interface and comes in 60 GB, 120 GB, and 240 GB capacities. The Storage POD mini has a blue anodized, all-aluminum enclosure, measures 4.33 x 2.67 x 0.39 inches (110 x 68 x 10 mm) and provides write and read speeds of up to 174 MB/s and 260 MB/s, respectively.

AMD Introduces the Radeon HD 7970 Video Card

AMD has announced their first video card powered by a 28 nm GPU, the Radeon HD 7970.

The Radeon HD 7970 has 2,048 processors (“cores”), works at 925 MHz and accesses its 3 GB of GDDR5 memory at 5.5 GHz through a 384-bit interface, creating a bandwidth of 264 GB/s. This HD 7970 is the first DirectX 11.1, the first PCI Express 3.0, and the first 28 nm product to arrive on the market. This video card also includes two BIOS chips, a dual-slot cooler, which uses vapor chamber technology, and four video outputs, one dual-link DVI, one HDMI 1.4a and two mini DisplayPort 1.2.

The Radeon HD 7970 has a recommended price of USD 549 and is expected to become available on January 9, 2012.

The GT780DX is the newest gaming notebook from MSI featuring a second generation Core i7 processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture, a DirectX 11 NVIDIA discrete video card, a top-notch Dynaudio sound and a keyboard made in collaboration with SteelSeries.

AMD Introduces New APUs

Today, AMD updated its A-Series line-up of desktop and notebook Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) with the launch of several dual- and quad-core models. For the first time, AMD introduces unlocked APUs (models with numbers ending with the letter “K”), which allows users to overclock both the CPU and the GPU units.

Lian Li has introduced a brand new mid-tower case, the PC-100, also known as “The Hammer.” The product is made from aluminum and supports E-ATX, XL-ATX, ATX and microATX motherboards. The PC-100 comes with two 5.25” external bays, six 3.5” internal bays, eight 2.5” bays (converted from 3.5” bays), eight slots for expansion cards and three fans: one 120 mm fan on the front panel and two 120 mm fans on the rear panel.

The product will be available on the market by the end of December with a suggested price of USD 199.

OCZ has officially launched the Indilinx Everest-based Petrol SSD series. Petrol drives have a 2.5-inch form factor, a SATA-600 interface, asynchronous MLC flash memory, TRIM support, and delivers bandwidth up to 400 MB/s.

The OCZ Petrol SSD drives will be available in models ranging from 64 GB - 512 GB capacities throughout OCZ’s global channel in the coming weeks.

Hitachi Announces 4 TB Hard Drives

Hitachi has just announced two 4 TB storage solutions, the Deskstar 5K4000 internal hard drive and the Touro Desk external hard drive.

The 4 TB Deskstar 5K4000 features SATA-600 interface, 32 MB of buffer, and uses Advanced Format, which increases the sector size on HDDs from 512 bytes to 4,096 bytes. It is available with a suggested retail price of USD 399.99.

The 4 TB Touro Desk external drive is equipped with one Deskstar 5K4000 drive, has a black, textured body, a USB 3.0 interface, and offers 3 GB of free cloud storage from HitachiBackup.com. This drive will be available in January with a suggested price of USD 419.99.

Sharkoon Launches Tauron Mid-Tower Case

Sharkoon is a company located in Germany that offers a wide range of PC components, including USB memories, power supplies and PC cases. The latest computer case from Sharkoon is the Tauron, which is a mid-tower model that comes in three color versions: black with a red interior, black with a green interior, and all-white.

The Tauron supports microATX and ATX motherboards, features two 5.25” external bays, one 3.5”/5.25” external bay, seven 2.5”/3.5” internal bays, seven slots for expansion cards, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an acrylic side window, and two pre-drilled holes on the rear panel for routing watercooling tubing. It is equipped with four fans, one 120 mm model on the rear panel, one 170 mm model on the top panel, and two 120 mm models with LEDs on the front panel.

Sharkoon did not disclose how much the Tauron will cost in the U.S. market.

Sapphire Launches Radeon HD 6450 FleX

Sapphire has just expanded their FleX family of video cards with the launch of a Radeon HD 6450 model that can support three standard DVI monitors in AMD Eyefinity mode, out of the box, without the need for costly DisplayPort monitors or active adapters. The Sapphire HD 6450 FleX works internally at 625 MHz and accesses its 1 GB of DDR3 memory at 800 MHz (1.6 GHz effective) through a 64-bit interface. It features three video outputs, two DVI and one HDMI 1.4a port.
