GlacialTech has just announced the launch of GP-AX950A, a 950 W power supply compatible with ATX12V 2.2 standard featuring modular cabling system, active PFC, two +12V rails, a 140-mm fan, 80Plus Silver certification, Japanese caps and protections against overvoltage (OVP), overload (OPP), overcurrent (OCP) and short-circuit (SCP). No word on pricing and availability.

AMD Launches Athlon II X4 Processors

CPU If it is not possible to compete with Intel in performance, AMD has figured out another way to face its rival: price. The company launched today two quad-core processors costing less than USD 130. Just to let you know, the cheapest quad-core processor from Intel (Core 2 Quad Q8200S – 2.33 GHz) is priced at USD 213 (1,000-unit). The new Athlon II X4 620 (2.6 GHz) and 630 (2.8 GHz) processors are manufactured using 45-nm process, have 2 MB of L2 cache, 4 GHz HyperTransport bus and a TDP of 95 W. Athlon II X4 620 has a suggested price of USD 99, while the Athlon II X4 630 is priced at USD 122.

Sapphire has launched its newest power supply series called PURE. Available in 625 W, 950 W, 1,050 W and 1,250 W, units from this new series are compatible with ATX12V v2.3 and EPS12V v2.92 standards, have active PFC, 80Plus certification (Standard for 625 W model, Silver for 950 W and 1,050 W models and Bronze for 1,250 W model), modular cabling system, six +12V virtual rails (625 W model has only three rails), a 132-mm fan equipped with 18 white LEDS with speed controlled according to the power supply temperature raging from 450 rpm to 2,000 rpm (625 W model has a 120-mm fan), Japanese caps and protections against overvoltage (OVP), under voltage (UVP), overload (OPP), over temperature protection (OTP), overcurrent (OCP) and short-circuit (SCP). Corsair has increased its Professional power supply line-up (comprised with 750 W, 850 W and 1,000 W models) with the launch of HX650W (CMPSU-650HX), a unit compatible with ATX12V 2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 standards, efficiency up to 85% (80Plus Bronze certification), a single +12 V rail project, PFC active, modular cabling system, caps rated at 105° C and 7-year warranty. Thermalright Debuts Socket 1156 Cooler

Thermalright has launched a CPU cooler compatible with the newest Intel socket 1156 processors, MUX-120. This cooler measures 5.23” x 1.49” x 6.29” or 13.3 cm x 3.8 cm x 16 cm (L x W x H), weights 1.47 lb (670 g), has six heatpipes that connect the base to 48 aluminum fins, and a 120-mm fan with speed of 1,200 rpm producing a maximum noise level of 23.5 dBA. At the moment Thermalright MUX-120 only supports socket 1156 processors. No word on pricing and availability.

Thermaltake has launched its newest CPU cooler, SpinQ VT (CLP0554). This product measures 4.72” x 6.25” or 12.01 cm x 15.9 cm, weights 1.09 lb (495 g), has a coated-copper base, three U-shaped heatpipes that connect the base to 50 aluminum fins, and a 80-mm (with red LED) fan with speed ranging from 1,000 rpm to 1,600 rpm producing a maximum noise level of 28 dBA. SpinQ VT supports Intel (sockets 775, 1156, 1366) and AMD (sockets 754, 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3) processors and is available at a suggest retail price of USD 49.

Toshiba Announces New 1.8” Hard Disks

Toshiba has just announced its newest 1.8” hard disk drives series targeted to portable media players, digital video cameras and other consumer electronics products. The new single-platter hard disks are available in 60 GB, 80 GB, 120 GB and 160 GB capacities, work at 4,200 rpm, have PATA interface, 15 ms average seek time and maximum sound output of 15 dB. According to Toshiba 160 GB model is already shipping, but the other models will enter in mass production late this month.

XFX, a known motherboard and video card manufacturer, has entered on the power supply market with the launch of Black Edition 850 W. ECS has launched P55H-A Black Series motherboard, a product targeted to gamers and overclocking freaks. This motherboard is based on Intel P55 Express chipset, supports the upcoming LGA-1156 Core i7 and Core i5 processors, has four DDR3-1333 slots (max 16 GB), two PCI Express slots (they work at x8 when two video card are installed), one PCI Express x4 slot, one PCI Express x1 slot, two PCI slots, 8-channel audio (Realtek ALC888 codec), Gigabit Ethernet (RealTek 8111DL), six SATA-300 ports, one ATA-133 port, one eSATA port, eight USB 2.0 ports, 6-phase voltage regulator circuit, POST diagnostics display, clear-CMOS button on the rear part of the board and on-board Power and Reset buttons. This motherboard comes with a myriad of overclocking options, as you can see below:

  • CPU Voltage: Adjustable CPU voltage from 0.5 V to 1.6 V
  • NB (IOH) Voltage: Adjustable NB (IOH) voltage from 0.011 V to 0.693 V
  • CPU VTT Voltage: Adjustable CPU VTT voltage from 0.013 V to 0.481 V
  • SB (ICH10R) Voltage: Adjustable SB (ICH10R) voltage from 0.05 V to 0.15 V
  • VDIMM: DRAM voltage control from 0.015 V to 0.945 V

P55H-A Black Series also comes with eJiffy, an embedded system that allows users to run several useful software (like Internet browsing and chat and pictures view programs) without loading the computer operating system.

Toshiba Announces Their First Laptop With Blu-Ray

Toshiba has just announced the launch of its first Blu-Ray-equipped laptop (originally Toshiba defended HD-DVD standard as the DVD successor, but they gave it up after have found no support by studios and distributors), Satellite P500. The portable features a Core 2 Duo processor, has a 18.4” display (resolution of up to 1920x1080; 16:9 aspect ratio), supports up to 4 GB, can be configured with up to 500 GB hard drives, has a built-in TV-turner card, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, 5-in-1 card reader, wireless network (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth, an HDMI output and a eSATA/USB port. No word on pricing and availability.
