ABIT has resumed its relationship with Nvidia with the release of the NF8 motherboard, based on the nForce3 250Gb chipset, supporting 754-pin Athlon 64 and Sempron processors. It includes integrated Nvidia Gigabit Ethernet and firewall. The NF8 also features ThermalGuard technology and BulletProof standards, promising extended durability.

Cell phone with 5-megapixel camera

Samsung unveiled the first mobile phone equipped with a 5-megapixel camera. Initially targeted at the Asian market, the SCH-S250 also features a QVGA TFD-LCD (240x320) that can reproduce 16 million collors and text-to-speech capabilities. Other functions include an MP3 player, video recording and 64-polyphonic sound.

The specifications include:

Wi-Fi/Cellular products are certified

LAN The Wi-Fi Alliance announced the first round of Wi-Fi certified products providing both Wi-Fi and cellular communications. Of the products, only the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h6315, the Intermec 760 Mobile Computer and the SanDisk Connect Wi-Fi SD Card are available now. The Nokia 9500 Communicator and the Motorola MPx are scheduled to arrive until the end of the year.

Memory Corsair announced this week their fastest memory to date: a XMS DDR550/PC4400 module that supports aggressive 2.5-4-4-8 latencies. The product is available in twin 1 GB kits, tested at 2.75 volts, and as individual 512 MB modules. The modules include black or platinum aluminum heat spreaders for improved heat dissipation.

Hyper 48 is a CPU cooler based on heat-pipe technology with a 92 mm ball bearing fan. Four copper heat pipes embedded in copper fins dissipate the heat. With a 9.5 mm copper base and four 6 mm diameter heat pipes, Hyper 48 promises to increase heat transference by 65%. It is compatible with socket 478, 754, 775, 939 and 940 processors. Intel releases Pentium M 765

CPU Intel released the new Pentium M 765, which runs at 2.10 GHz and features a 2MB L2 cache, a 400MHz bus and improved power consumption, through technologies such as Enhanced Speedstep. The new chip is built using the 90-nanometer manufacturing process. The Pentium M 765 is priced at $637 in 1,000-unit quantities.

ABIT has formally announced its AX8 motherboard, the first based on VIA's K8T890, a PCI Express chipset for 939-pin Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors. It includes one PCI-E x16 and three PCI-E x1 slots. Like other ABIT motherboards, it features the µGuru overclocking technology. AX8's main features are the following:

Nvidia announces nForce4 chipsets

Motherboard Nvidia announced its new nForce4 family of PCI Express chipsets designed to 939-pin Athlon 64 processors. The basic version has one PCI-E x16 slot for graphics cards, three PCI-E x1 slots, four Serial ATA ports, two ATA-133 ports, RAID 0, 1 and 0+1, USB 2.0, AC97 audio, hardware firewall and Gigabit Ethernet. The nForce4 Ultra and SLI adds support for Serial ATA II (3 Gb/s), a secure networking engine called ActiveArmor and a new optimization application called nTune. The SLI version, as is shown by its name, includes Nvidia´s multi-GPU solution.

New Athlon 64 4000+ and FX-55 chips

CPU AMD released today two new socket 939 Athlon 64 processors. The 4000+ is clocked at 2.4 GHz and features 1 MB of L2 cache, dual-channel memory controller and 1 GHz HyperTransport bus. The Athlon 64 FX-55, aimed at gamers and enthusiasts, has the same specifications, but runs at 2.6 GHz. It is priced at USD 827 in 1,000-unit quantities. The Athlon 64 4000+ is priced at $729.

Tul warns about forged cards

Video The graphic cards maker Tul has alerted its customers about the existence of forged PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro graphics cards, found in market earlier this month. Apparently, some cards are being sold as PowerColor Radeon 9600, but use Radeon 9550 graphic chips instead. Tul added that is has already announced the discontinuation of the PowerColor RADEON 9600 PRO 128 MB available in 400/600MHz in June. The company sent out warnings to its partners and posted an announcement on its website.

TR2TT, a brand from Thermaltake, launched an ultra-silent high performance heat sink fan for Intel’s LGA 775 processors. The TR2-M13 is copper base inserted and its radial fins increase airflow. Promised noise level is 21dBA. The fan measures 90x90x25 mm.

Olympus unveiled a HD-based music player that can also take photos. The m:robe 500 player combines a 20GB built-in hard drive and a cell-phone-quality camera (1.22 megapixel) into the same unit. The 3.7-inch LCD screen controls both the player and the camera. Photos can be directly printed through any PictBridge-enabled printer via USB 2.0. The m:robe 500 player won´t appear in stores until January 2005 though. Estimated price is USD 499.99.
