DFI will start selling a Pentium M motherboard for desktops, the 855GME-MGF, this month. Based on the Intel mobile 855GME/6300 ESB chipset, it supports socket 479 Pentium M processors, bringing low noise and low energy consumption to the desktop. The 855GME-MGF is based on the standard Micro ATX form factor and features support for DDR333 memory and AGP 4x. For overclockers, advanced BIOS features include adjustable CPU clock (100 to 250 MHz), adjustable CPU ratio (6 to infinite), adjustable FSB to memory ratio (1:1, 4:3, 5:3), asynchronized PCI/AGP modes (33/66, 36/73, 40/80) and built-in stability testing for both memory and CPU. The full specs are:

  • 400 MHz FSB
  • DDR-333 memory support
  • 2x DIMM sockets (2 GB max.)
  • 1x Ultra DMA 100
  • 2x Serial ATA ports

MSI unveils 925XE Neo Platinum

MSI also introduced a motherboard based on the i925XE chipset supporting 1066 MHz bus – introduced with the recently released 3.46 GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition – and Matrix RAID technology. The 925XE Neo Platinum includes a "CPU Ratio Unlock" function that promises overclocking of P4 processors with 800 MHz bus to 1066 MHz bus.

DFI LANParty used to reach 6.3 GHz

Motherboard A user named Fugger allegedly overclocked a 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 to 6.3 GHz. He achieved the feat using a DFI LANParty 875P-T motherboard, Centon Advanced DDR memory, OCZ DDR Booster and Chilly1 Three-Stage CPU Cascade. At 6.3 GHz, his overclocked Pentium 4 560 processor had a front bus speed of 1800 MHz.

Fatal1ty X700-XT from ABIT

ABIT has also announced a Radeon X700 XT card as part of its Fatal1ty hardware series. The PCI Express card has eight pixel pipelines, 128-bit memory bus and is clocked at 475 MHz. It uses 256 MB of GDDR3 memory (1.6 ns) running at 1050 MHz. Special features include copper heatsink, copper RAMsinks and OC Strips. The card comes with VGA, DVI and TV-out connectors.

ABIT launches Fatal1ty motherboard

ABIT has launched its new AA8XE Fatal1ty motherboard, based on the recently released i925XE chipset supporting 1066 MHz Pentium 4 processors. The board, approved by the number one gamer in the world, Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, includes features like an unlockable BIOS and µGuru overclocking technology. The AA8XE offers 7.1 high-definition audio and is the first motherboard with Dolby Digital Live support. The inclusion of red LED backlights will appeal to case modders.

CPU As expected, Intel released a new Pentium 4 Extreme Edition clocked at 3.46 GHz with a long awaited 1066 MHz front side bus. To support it, the company also unveiled the i925XE chipset and two motherboards (D925XECV2 and D925XEBC2). The new Pentium 4 EE, with 2 MB L3 cache like the other models, is priced at USD 999 in 1,000 unit quantities.

OCZ released its own OCZ Memtest86 v1.00 memory test program, based on the recently released Memtest86+ v1.27. Some of its additional functionalities are: full timing adjustment for the nForce2, i865/i875 and i915/i925 (DDR1) chipsets; partial timing adjustment for Athlon64 on-die memory controller and the i915/i925 chipset (DDR2); and more specific options for fine-tuning the memory controller on AMD64 chips. The software is distributed under the GNU Public License (GPL).

European company Asetek has launched new WaterChill kits with 80x80 mm or 120x360 mm radiators. The water based cooling solutions line now includes more than 25 kits and a long list of components. New releases include a entry kit with a 80x80mm radiator (priced at 86 euros), high-end kits with dual 80 mm radiators (219 to 284 euros) and power kits with triple 120x360 mm radiators (293 to 339 euros).

AMD launches the PIC computer

AMD officially announced the Personal Internet Communicator (PIC), a sealed computer without fan based on a Geode chip and running a customized version of Windows CE. The device will be sold initially in India, Mexico and the Caribbean through local partners to improve Internet access rates. The PIC includes 128 MB of memory, a 10 GB hard drive, a 56 kbps modem and four USB ports. It will cost US$ 185 (without monitor) or US$ 249.

BenQ will start shipping in early November the new x730 Wireless keyboard and mouse combination. Designed by Designworks (BMW Group), the keyboard features X-structure Key Technology and provides six media console buttons and two volume buttons. The Pro version includes a volume knob, enabling users to start and control a media player. The x730 has also a patented sliding design that allows adjusting the typing angle and expanding the palm rest. The mouse sports a 800 dpi optical sensor and a wide scroll wheel surface.

Apple releases iPod Photo

Apple has released a version of its iPod music player called Photo, featuring a 2-inch (220x176) color screen for displaying images. An included AV cable enables connectivity to a TV or video projector. The iPod Photo also includes a dock with audio and video out, earbud headphones, 1.2m 30-pin to FireWire cable, a 1.2m 30-pin to USB cable, AC adapter, black carrying case and a CD with iTunes 4.7 for Mac and Windows computers. The player is available in 40 GB (USD 499) or 60 GB (USD 599) capacities.

SanDisk offers higher capacities

The Memory Stick PRO will now be available with up to 4 GB while the Memory Stick PRO Duo, which has half the size of the standard card and uses an adaptor, will reach 1 GB. The SD cards will be available in up to 2 GB capacities. All the cards feature embedded MagicGate technology for safe transfer of copyrighted content. Prices are the following: 4 GB MS Stick PRO, USD 799; 1 GB MS Stick PRO Duo, USD 204; and 2 GB SD, USD 199.

CPU Intel released a new Low Voltage Xeon processor (55 W) clocked at 2.8 GHz featuring 64-bit extensions (EM64T). The chip has a 800 MHz bus and 1 MB L2 cache and is aimed at storage applications such as controllers for storage networks. It is paired with the E7520 chipset, which sports PCI Express and DDR2-400 memory support. The 2.8 GHz Low Voltage Xeon is priced at USD 260 in 1,000-unit quantities.
