ATI launched the TV Wonder Elite, a new TV capture card based on the company own Theater 550 Pro chip that promises high-end TV image quality on PCs. The card can receive up to 125 PAL and SECAM channels in addition to FM radio. The Theater 550 Pro integrates a 12-bit video decoder that features 3D comb filtering for NTSC and PAL and 5-line 2D Comb filtering. The bundle includes a new Remote Wonder Plus control. Suggested retail price is USD 149.

Hitachi´s Deskstar reaches 500 GB

Storage Hitachi launched three new 7,200 rpm 3.5-inch hard drives in its Deskstar line including one that establishes a new industry record with 500 GB capacity called the 7K500. The other models are the T7K250, a two-disk, 250 GB product, and the 7K80 with 80 GB. All drives are available in SATA II versions with NCQ support. In related news, Hitachi announced new 1-inch “baby” Microdrives, with 20% size reduction and capacities between 8 GB and 10 GB. These will get to the market in the second half of the year.

Nvidia introduces mobile GeForce 6200

Video Nvidia introduced new mobile GPUs with TurboCache technology in the GeForce Go 6200 series. The Shader 3.0 compatible chips are aimed at mainstream thin'n'light notebooks and Sony has already agreed to include them in some Vaio models. TurboCache allows the card to share – through the PCI Express interface – the capacity and bandwith of dedicated video memory and dynamically available system memory. The new GPUs also include PureVideo technology, a combination of hardware and software that provides high-definition playback of video content.

Prolink releases dual TV tuner card

Video Prolink announced the PixelView PlayTV PCX600 series, a PCI Express TV tuner card which supports dual channel functionality, including Ngene architecture from Micronas for picture in picture (PiP) and recording while watching a TV show. It features baseband stereo audio and video inputs in Composite and S-Video formats as well as an SPDIF optical input. The card works with NTSC, PAL, SECAM and all sub-formats.

DFI releases LANParty nForce4 boards

DFI released two LANParty motheboards based on nForce4 chipsets for socket-939 AMD processors. Both the LANParty UT nF4 SLI-D and the LANParty UT nF4 Ultra-D bring features like Serial ATA II with Native Command Queuing (NCQ) support and NV firewall, but the former also includes SLI technology for multiple VGA cards. For overclocking enthusiasts, the boards offers memory voltage support from 2.5 V to 4.0 V, CPU core voltage up to 2.1 V, chipset voltage from 1.5 V to 1.8 V, HTT ranging from 1.2 to 1.5, adjustable multiplier control up to 20x and Async settings. The packages include matching colour UV reactive round and SATA cables.

Police finds stolen AMD chips in Taiwan

CPU AMD publicly aknowledged on Tuesday that a number of discarded K7 and K8 processors was found in illegal possession of at least four taiwanese companies. According to some news sites, police seized 60,000 remarked chips in a raid on one of such companies. Some doctored processors are said to have been shipped to other asian countries and Europe, but AMD denies this allegation. The company advises consumers to buy chips only from authorized resellers.

Video ATI introduced a Mac Edition of its Radeon X800 XT. The card features 16 pixel pipelines, six vertex pipelines and 256 MB of GDDR3 memory. Video Palit is the first to market with a GeForce 6200 VGA card with AGP 8x interface. Many companies already offer GeForce 6600 AGP products. The new card from Palit sports four pixel pipelines, 128-bit interface, 128 MB or 256 MB of memory and VGA, DVI and TV-Out connectors. Actual availability is not yet known.

AMD introduces Au1200 chip

CPU AMD today introduced the AMD Alchemy Au1200 processor, a low-power system-on-chip solution designed to provide living-room quality video in portable devices. The chip has been optimized for personal media players (PMP) and enables DVD-quality displays, video transfers from digital recorders and longer battery life (400 mW consumption at 400MHz). It supports DDR1 and DDR2 memory and sports AES-128 data encryption. The Au1200 processor will be available in the second quarter in 333MHz, 400MHz and 500MHz speed options.

6XX P4s to be released in february

CPU The Inquirer reports that the new Pentium 4 6XX family will be introduced in the end of February 2005. The chips will be initially available at 3 GHz to 3.6 GHz and feature 2 MB of L2 cache. Other capabilities will include Execute Disable security technology and Enhanced Speedstep, which manages performance and power consumption. According to the site, Intel will also introduce the i945 (Lakeport) and i955 (Glenwood), supporting not only the 6XX processors but also future dual-core parts.

Gigabyte has released its second generation Bluetooth USB adapter (GN-BTD02) with wireless range of up to 100 meters. It offers a 723 Kbps data rate and supports up to seven Bluetooth devices. D-Link recently announced what it calls the industry's first gaming router. The GamerLounge wireless router (DGL-4300) features GameFuel technologies, a new packet processing engine integrated directly on the router, giving online games precedence for bandwidth over other Internet applications, email and FTP transfers. The device has four Gigabit Ethernet with 802.11g wireless connectivity. Suggested price is USD 179.99. D-Link has also released a wired version (DGL-4100) priced at USD 149.99.

JVC creates Blu-ray/DVD combo disc

Storage JVC announced a combo disc that allows storage of content in Blu-ray and DVD formats. With total capacity of 33.5 GB, the disc has a triple layer structure based on a patented reflective film. The outer Blu-Ray layer stores up to 25GB and the inner DVD dual layer stores up to 8.5 GB. The film used on the combo disc reflects Blu-Ray blue laser but is transparent to red laser used in DVD reproduction. JVC will forward a proposal to the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) to have the technology accepted as a specification. The company is already working on a Blu-ray/ DVD combo disc with 58.5 GB (50 GB + 8.5 GB) capacity.
