Today, Toshiba announced the AL13SE series of 2.5”, SAS-600 interface hard disk drives (HDDs), which offer enterprise-class performance in capacities ranging from 300 GB to 900 GB. These hard drives spin at 10,500 rpm, feature 64 MB of buffer, and were designed for mission-critical applications, providing an operating reliability rating of 2,000,000 power-on hours (a statistical value related to mean failure rates for a larger number of products, which may not accurately reflect actual operation). They also employ a dual-stage head positioning actuator that provides additional performance gains, including a 32% increase in sustained transfer rate.
