It is not the first 1 TB 2.5-inch hard drive from Samsung. Last year, the company launched the Spinpoint MT2, a 1 TB 2.5-inch hard drive that had three 333 GB platters and a height of 12.5 mm. The new Spinpoint M8 is thinner than the Spinpoint MT2 (9.5 mm vs. 12.5 mm) because it uses two 500 GB platters. It has SATA-300 interface, 8 MB of cache, and spins at 5,400 rpm.
