Following this tendency, MSI showed during CeBIT 2009 Winki, an operating system based on a Linux distribution that comes installed on a flash memory and that can be hooked up on one of the motherboard’s USB headers. Once the Winki OS is loaded, a screen shows up and offers functions like built-in web browsing, MSN, Skype, ICQ and Yahoo, so there’s no need to load the main OS from hard disk. You can even use the Winki with a system without a hard disk (this is the same idea of ASUS Express Gate feature). So you can have a system with common PC functions with no hard disk, thus saving some money.
