GeIL, a well-known memory manufacturer, is entering the power supply market under a new brand, Thortech Power. Their two first power supply series will be called Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt PLUS, and products based on these series should be available by the end of next month. The Thunderbolt series is comprised with 650 W, 850 W, 1,000 W, and 1,200 W models, while the Thunderbolt PLUS series features 800 W, 1,000 W, and 1,200 W models. The difference between them is that models from Thunderbolt PLUS series have a 5.25” external control panel to monitor the PSU’s consumption, feature not present on models from the regular Thunderbolt series. Another difference is that models from Thunderbolt PLUS feature a single +12 V rail, while models from Thunderbolt series have four +12 V rails. Despite of that, all models will be compatible with ATX12V 2.3 and EPS12V 2.91 standards, will have active PFC circuit, modular cabling system, 80 Plus Gold certification, a 135 mm fan, and protections against over voltage (OVP), under voltage (UVP), over current (OCP), over power (OPP), and short-circuit (SCP). No word on pricing.
